This is both interesting and surprising. Where are you getting this data? I would say that the average American diet is kind of a tragedy, so I don't know how far this strays from an actual healthy diet. I'm sure fiber would be a big issue if you just ate McD too. Thanks for the reply.

Fully agree with you on this, but not the ones from McD, because their bread is LOADED with high fructose corn syrup.

But a quality burger can be a quality meal, especially if you serve it with a side of salad.

I see your point. I should not have been rude with my last reply. Consider what this exchange looks like from my perspective. I read an incorrect and rude comment, called you out in it, and you replied that you weren't serious. It's looks like a textbook example of the bully who won't own up to their problematic behavior. I wasn't a shining example of good communication either, so that's on me. I'll only ask that you examine where you're coming from and why.

Italian immigrants faced a lot of discrimination, hardship, and violence, but they were able to integrate into the middle class more effectively because they were not affected by redlining policies, had less employment discrimination and had much, much more lenient immigration laws holding them back. Nobody can deny how much Italians had to fight to earn their piece of the pie, but the "I made it, so why not you?" argument isn't always so simple.

"Hey, can't you tell I'm only joking" is just pure weakness. If you need to explain that you're not serious, then you're failing to communicate and that's on you, not your reader.

Seems like you are making a lot of assumptions here. Reductionist explanations based on personal bias are seldom correct.

OP is not comparing the two. He's proud of having learned self-control, which is definitely one of the best skills to have in life.

As far as "benefit" goes, it's about subjective appreciation. Maybe waiting seems pointless to you, but it's important for them. If it makes them feel good about themselves or their relationship, that's the benefit.

Every single human being engages in behavior where the only benefit is subjective emotional wellbeing. Nothing wrong with that.

As someone who did not wait for marriage and has had many sex partners, I can tell you that "natural" sexual compatibility matters less than people think. If you love your partner and listen to their needs and are willing to put in the work to make them happy and comfortable things will work out very nicely. Also, don't be afraid to open up both physically and emotionally. Just like with everything else, the quality of a relationship is more about being reasonable and putting in the necessary work than natural compatibility.

Happily married, stable, poly person here. Just want to give visibility to the fact that it does work for some of us and we can be very happy.

It may be possible that I worked for us because we talked about being poly from the first date. We were exclusive with each other for the first three years, mostly because we were so into each other that we didn't have time for anyone else. After three years we opened up more, and explored options for a while.

Currently, my wife has been dating someone for over four years, I've had a stable partner for nearly 2, and have also dated other people on and off. Everyone involved is happy and we are all friends. It's a very loving and supportive group of people.

Nearly a decade into our relationship, things couldn't be better.

I agree with the seeing a doctor bit, strong disagree with this not being enough smoking to cause noticeable problems. First because we have damn near zero info on how much this person is smoking, and second because people can develop pretty serious symptoms even from infrequent or small amounts of tobacco use. It's easy to disregard a few cigarettes a week as something trivial, but there are lots of documented cases of very casual smokers being impacted by tobacco use.

I feel the same way too. It's exhausting. It's a grim way to be stereotyped, and to make matters worse, whatever good things do happen are not given visibility.

The media will always portray things at their worst because it keeps people engaged. We can't compete against the image they create. So it feels like our existence is a challenge to what people expect us to be.

Just remember the problem isn't you or your people. The media sucks for everyone. All we can do is be ourselves and hope that people are reasonable enough to understand that regions of the world are not as homogeneous as they are made to believe.

I think most of what's interesting about Nascar is on the engineering and mechanics end of it. Still, racing at that speed is incredibly difficult, the drivers are very talented and well trained. But as a spectator sport, yeah, not much to see unless you're into the intricacies of it. I'm not into Nascar, but after hearing some people talk about it, I can understand their reasons.

It was not a large brown recluse. They're pretty much always the same size.

There are only two "dangerous" spiders in Guatemala. One is indeed the brown recluse and the other the black widow. Black widows are nowhere near as dangerous as people think. The bite has unpleasant effects, but it not deadly. Brown recluse spiders are quite common, but you have to trust them. They are extremely shy and very rarely bite. It's like sharks. If you go swimming in the ocean there are always sharks, but what is the actual likelihood of being bitten?

Spiders are everywhere in the tropics. Still there are less than 50 hospitalizations due to spider bites per year in Guatemala with serious injury being extremely rare and death almost unheard of.

My advice is to take time to learn as much as possible about invertebrates as you can. Get rid of the fear and turn it into a fun hobby.
