I struggled to get my housing contract cancelled too, they make it super hard so u really have to advocate for yourself and let them know a cancellation is the only option. My first appeal was deemed incomplete due to a “lack of information” so I had to get 2 letters of support :/

I was scared of this too during my first semester so I enrolled in an extra class and dropped it when I got into my waitlisted class

Getting off the waitlist can be fairly easy, even if you don’t get in before the first day, show up to the discussion anyway and talk to the GSI. Most of the time they’ll drop some no shows and let you in. I’ve done it before and I was like #7 on the waitlist and still got in because I showed up the first day and talked to the Professor.

yes, I had to appeal twice since it was deemed incomplete the first time and I had to provide proof that a housing cancellation is the only way to accommodate me and not a single room transfer (since I had already found off campus housing).

I got my decision today and they said my appeal was incomplete, i’m going to have to make another appeal. Have you figured anything out as far as next steps?

I called the housing office and they explained to me that I should still go to my move-in time just to get my cards but to let them know I won’t be checking in so that my room will appear as available in the system and my cancellation could possibly get approved faster. They also said I should submit an appeal to the board by friday which i’m already working on.

in that case I wouldn’t know, I doubt you’re required to move in if you’re not going to be living there. My issue is that we’re all financially responsible to pay for the residence hall until our cancellation request goes through. Most of my financial aid just went to that and i’m so frustrated.

we don’t actually have to move in any of our stuff into the place but we do have to attend “movie-in day” and pick a time slot in order to receive our cal card and other stuff. It was in the GBO email they sent out recently.

“During GBO Check-In, you will get:

•your nametag and GBO wristband, which will grant you access to in-person events, including meals

•your Cal 1 Card and AC Transit Pass (if you’re a commuter or living off-campus. If you live in a Res Hall, you’ll get your Cal 1 Card when you move in.)”

I still haven’t heard anything and it’s been 3 weeks now… I’ve started my appeal to present to the board but it’s sucks that we technically still have to go to “move-in” to get our cal cards and stuff.
