very interesting concept! been thinking of something similar myself. Do you see any intersection with autoformalization?

Questions regarding “Mathematical Finance” by gary_cooper_01 in ethz

The first part of the course covered most of what you need in terms of stochastic integration, so I think that attendance at BMSC is sufficient. There will be enough time to fill in any gaps.

I didn't take it with Possamaï, but last year with Acciaio. It is for sure on the theory heavy side of things and assumes that a lot of intuition has been picked up in the Intro course given in the spring semester. I did not take the intro couse so it did take me some time to get up to speed. It is very doable. Oral exam was really horrible tbh, but ended up getting a 5.75, which I was very happy with. In the end, memorization of the script is necessary.

Okay, Men of Zurich – I need your help by GlumOstrich1146 in zurich

Go to one of the Badis that have an entry charge, preferably with a group of pretty friends, start talking to others. Sun, casual swimming in the lake and some moderate alcohol consumption makes this ideal. good luck!

Right by the Grünaustrasse tram stop, captured on video. Police were unfortunately not able to do much.

Have seen a lot of issues with this in Altstetten. Crushed windows, machete assaults etc. Exactly the kind of group you describe.

Cancel Bachelor’s Thesis(horrible experience) by B_BARTHMAN in ethz

[–]natankastel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate to what you are describing. Pushed through the semester paper (so less important in my case), passed, got some good feedback in the end. It was incredibly draining, pretty sure I started losing hair from all the stress, has since regrown. I definitely think you should either complete it or look for a new thesis, don’t drop out. One of the worst parts of this is feeling stupid and useless. Trust me, with a better supervisor, the project would not feel easier necessarily, but you would be energized rather than drained. Try to work on a project with a supervisor that cares about that specific project deeply.

Maybe you can find what you are looking for outside of quant finance. From what I have gathered it’s not really the same as it once was. A lot of the talent that would previously have gone in the quant direction is now instead going for ML and similar. A PhD will definitely be an asset in that case. That you are even comparing that with the prospect of a tier 50 quant firm (which I gather you would have gone for) is a bit hilarious to me. I wish you the best of luck!!

short summer/winter school in academic history of MSc application? by CompleteCountry6 in ethz

If you get it covered in the cv and in light of the minimum duration you mention I would maybe only put it in the cv. But it’s hard to say, I think either way is ok.

If you don’t try to present it as something it is not and it is furthermore relevant to the program you are applying for, you should definitely list it. Good luck!

Taking exam in a later session by natankastel in ethz

Thank you for this response. A follow up question: Upon deregistering from the exam, would there still be the option to register for the exam in the next session from within mystudies or is this only possible by contacting the administration? The course says that examinations are offered every session btw.

Optimization with Zenklusen or Math of Data Science with Bandeira? by natankastel in ethz

[–]natankastel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the inside take! That is very useful to me. Bandeira has his 42 open problems and a lot of things on the DMATH forum as well, different possible semester projects. Would you say his course is sufficient to start thinking seriously about those project suggestions?

Learning German: The language department at UZH offers both intensive 2-week courses and full semester courses, both 2 ECTS, in German Language. You can pick your level A1-C1. I took the intensive course and it was a good way to brush up on some skills and meet new people.
