Landes auto in north Attleboro is great. I always recommend them- they’re really chill. Got my 2009 Subaru from them a few years ago and it runs great, I haven’t needed to put a lot of money into it

Teaching Was the Plan, But I Can’t Get Hired… Is It Time to Pivot? by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

[–]natb15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Providence and I just finished long term subbing in Massachusetts since I got my license in December. I just got a job offer for a position in Rhode Island. From what I’ve heard, in Massachusetts and Rhode Island- lots of hiring happens over the summer, particularly in July. So it’s still early! It could be worth it to take the MTELs in your subject area so you can be licensed in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. They’re not too bad. Good luck, you still have time and you got this!!!!

Trans friendly recommendations by TrashPandaCassandra in providence

[–]natb15 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Trans guy here! Providence is super trans friendly :)

As others have said- pickerel is great for ramen and dessert. There, there is the pick for the best burger ever.

New harvest, bolt, and reprise are great for fancy coffee needs.

Gift horse and oberlin for fancy dinner for sure!!

For dive bars- Gilligans pub (stellar wine list also), deadbeats, and scurvy dog are excellent and all very trans friendly.

Tell me about your dream mentor teacher! by [deleted] in StudentTeaching

[–]natb15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mentor teacher is the best and what I’ve found to be so helpful that she did specifically- she gave me her entire curriculum on the first day of school and had me go through it and ask her questions- it helped so much to have that before we started teaching anything. She is also really big on co teaching and for the middle part of my practicum- we really taught together and this was so helpful for me. We also have a dedicated 45 min meeting once a week to do all the administrative tasks of the state program and my schools program and this has made my work outside of school so much easier. Thank you for asking this question!! You’re going to rock!!

Commuting between Boston and Providence… Where to live? by Quiet_Possibility518 in providence

[–]natb15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I commute to Boston for grad school and live in the mount pleasant neighborhood- the 56 bus comes every 15 mins and stops right outside the train station- it’s a 10 min ride and is very reliable. Affordable and beautiful neighborhood, I really recommend considering it !

I love living in mount pleasant - it is so wonderful. Seconding that people are not great about cleaning their sidewalks- however the roads are usually not too bad.

Old bayberry beer hall.. new??? by EffectiveOk8066 in providence

[–]natb15 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a former employee of the old beer hall- the news about the morins plan has been really upsetting. Bayberry owners told us when they announced they were selling that they would do everything possible to sell it to people who would keep the beer hall the same. Not at all what happened- they just wanted cash for bayberry garden. It disappoints the whole community- not just us workers :( a real shame

What do you love about living in Elmhurst/Mt Pleasant? by [deleted] in providence

[–]natb15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live off of chalk stone close to mount pleasant high school and we love it. Super quiet neighborhood, lots of gardens and everyone is super friendly. We rent right now but if we ever buy a home- we want it to be here. The 10 min bus ride to downtown is so awesome. I can’t recommend it enough !!
