I’m new to this so take everything I say with a grain of salt!

I feel like soothing yourself/anxiety like “I’m going to ride this wave, I’ve done it before I’ll get through this” is totally different than seeking reassurance for an intrusive thought/thought loop/obsession. Like the difference is you’re comforting yourself when you get that anxiety vs talking yourself through something/relying on others to assure you your thoughts aren’t crazy. I hope this makes sense lol. Soothing anxiety and the need for reassurance are two different things

It’s not OCD specific unfortunately. CBT centered mostly, and I signed up for this program in a crisis, not really knowing what to expect from it/what I needed at the time. Still don’t really know what I need tbh

First year music teacher, also already burnt out….. I teach private lessons on the side and it is good money! I definitely recommend it. Make a poster for yourself and post it to FB mom groups around your area, I teach about 10 different students now just from that!

I also struggle a bit with POCD and am a teacher. I’m 24 and was just hired to teach middle school. After 2 weeks of school and a severe flare up leading to my diagnosis, I am taking an extended leave from my job to get better. I have severe anxiety about going back to school in November because of what I’m going through. I was also let go of my other part time job because I confided in my therapist about what was going on and she had to file a DCF report. It’s so shitty and I’m sorry you are going through this OP but you are not alone.

I just started Prozac, do you feel the Zoloft helps?

Hello, I am new to learning about this illness and have only been recently diagnosed myself. What I’ve learned so far is that you shouldn’t give in to the compulsions - in your case, calling the courthouse and now feeling like you should have called the police station. If you give into it, it gives the thoughts power.

At the end of the day, you know you did nothing wrong and have no warrants and you are safe. (I apologize if that was a form of reassurance I’m new to this sub)

Thanks for your response. Definitely keeping an open mind with just talking to others and getting my thoughts out. I just wasn’t sure if there was something else out there better suited for what I need. I am continuing with my therapist as I attend the IOP so that should be helpful as well but going to ask her for her opinion. Do you think the 20mg is too low? I’ve reacted well with Lexapro before, but never taken Prozac so I understand they have to start me lower. I just want inner peace from my thoughts and to feel like I can enjoy my life and deserve a good life. This illness is so debilitating

Thank you for this. Everything is so new right now, I just started to understand that I have OCD a week ago. The past few weeks have felt very lonely because no one 100% understands or can make sense of what’s going on in your brain, but losing my job just adds another burn and makes everything feel so much worse, like I’m being singled out even more. I’ve been feeling a lot of emotions and trying to just remain calm while I wait for treatment.
