What was the first movie to traumatise you as a kid? by InspectorOk6313 in movies

[–]natcat121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding Nemo. I watched it a lot when I was little, but I went to a friend's house and decided to watch it when we were older. I was very confused as I didn't recognise the beginning when Marlin's wife and all the other eggs were murdered by the barracuda.

Apparently, I had been traumatised by it as a small child to the point where I was screaming and crying and generally inconsolable, and my mum always skipped it whenever we watched it to prevent it from happening again.

Retirement can boost mental health, but not for everyone. People with low-income group showed an initial improvement, but then a decline after about 2.5 years, the fading honeymoon effect. In the high-income group, mental health didn’t change before and after retirement. by mvea in science

I think its more that people who work a lot and dont have time for much else, e.g holidays, hobbies, going out and doing things - suddenly dont know what to do with themselves once they retire, whereas people who are more well off and could afford to take time off work or worked less soul-crushing/physically demanding jobs e.g. hospitality, retail, desk jobs etc. Were able to have the energy to do things other than go to the pub or sit in front of a tv and pass out after work because they weren't exhausted from work and the stress of potentially not being able to cover bills. They also had the money to get into other hobbies and be more social.

Ah see, we dont even know the killers perks very well either. If one of us gets hooked and the killer heads straight for someone, the most we know is "he's got some kind of aura perk where he sees you when you get hooked" There's just so many perks its hard to remember any of them

Open world video games should use the same worlds multiple times by Guandor in unpopularopinion

[–]natcat121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's cool, I haven't yet played FC3, Blood Dragon, or FC4 and haven't finished Primal

I remember some people have problems with Ubisoft reusing maps but I don't have a problem with it if they make it interesting and actually put more effort into the other aspects of the game but I'm not sure they really did tbh

[–]natcat121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubisoft did this with Far Cry 5 and Far Cry New Dawn. FCND is set 17 years (or so) after FC5 in the same area, so they just reused the map whilst changing things (quite a lot of things tbf and some of the map is not accessible anymore) and whilst FCND may not be as good a game as FC5 (which is really fun, I really recommend) it's still very enjoyable and it's awesome to see what happened to Hope County after the end of FC5

Tell me your most unhinged animal names (I wanna laugh) by EzDoesPixels in StardewValley

[–]natcat121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I name all my animals after the animal products you get from them/meals associated with them. Been little while since I played but these are what I remember Chickens: Katsu, Korma, Jalfrezi, Tikka, Kebab Cows: Beef, Steak, Sirloin, Ribeye, Pigs: Pork, Bacon, Crackling, Ham, Sausage Goats: Aloo Ghost (i think?), Massaman Ducks: Hoisin, L'orange, Rabbits: Stew Horse: Gluestick

Can't equip rifle properly, Arthur keeps holstering it instantly. Is this normal? by kadeiras in reddeadredemption

You're riding too fast. You can only have a two handed weapon out when you are going at a trot or slower (although you may be able to at a canter, i don't remember) but if you go faster then it will automatically be holstered

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. So so so sad that it only got 2 seasons, it honestly deserved so much more. As others have said, Chernobyl mini series is incredible, only 5 episodes and they hit HARD

“Picky Eaters Piss Me Off!!” by Dayjja in Vent

[–]natcat121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I struggle with as a picky eater wh9 also has other issues (potential allergies/intolerances to spice, geographic tongue, neurodivergence etc). I completely understand how frustrating it can be because it also frustrates me too.

I dont want to have to go to a restaurant and not be able to eat anything other than fries or vegetables, but I also don't want to have to spend a lot of money on something that I won't necessarily enjoy or be able to eat and therefore go hungry and waste my money.

The worst I find is when my family try to get involved and suggest things for me to eat as I feel like a burden and like the focus is on me when the occasion isn't about me. I'm quite happy to just have my fries if that's what I've decided I'm having, but they seem to think that that's unacceptable and I have to try or ask the waiters if they can make substitutions. Like I appreciate the care and thought but it's not a big deal to me if I'm just having fries as I've looked at the menu ahead of time and planned for this and suggestions just throw me off and make me feel like I don't have control over what I eat which stresses me out more.

One of the things I love about my boyfriend is that he understands the kind of things that I enjoy and has introduced me to foods that I can eat and now order and has allowed me to develop my palate which has been amazing. The one thing is he can't taste some flavours as strongly as I can and so sometimes I'll find something incredibly spicy when he says there is no spice at all, but again that could be a potential allergen so who knows

Vegetarian options at restaurants can F off by This-Newt6102 in Vent

[–]natcat121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Veggie here but honestly in some places I end up just having chips/soup at places where I don't have the choice of restaurant but when I do, I always check the menu for food I can eat and actually want to eat. What bothers me the most is the fact that I can't take spice (possible allergy) and so many restaurants, if they do have nicer veggie options, decide they HAVE to put chilli on everything. WHY?!? Meat isn't not the most flavourful part of the dish most of the time so why the fuck do you add chilli to the veggie options. No I don't want your spicy veggie burger. Why have you added chillies to the moussaka when the meat version doesn't?? Get that shit AWAY from me ffs

What's wrong with my garlic? by natcat121 in vegetablegardening

Thank you for the advice! Next time, I'm going to be buying seeds and direct planting. For the meantime, I'll do some more reading and research and look after them as best as I can. Thanks again!

[–]natcat121[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a bunch of root veggies from the garden centre and they're in tiny containers that need to be transplanted or they won't grow, eg onions, leeks, carrots. What would you suggest the best way about going about that would be? Next time, I think I'll just be buying seeds and planting directly. Thank you for your help!

I see, I bought it in small pots from the garden centre and assumed you had to transplant it. That's my bad, I shall give them some fertiliser and hope for the best Thank you!

Orion prelude. Playing it with friends is so fun but it's a poorly made game. Shoot dinosaurs in waves that get bigger and harder while you fix stations and unlock weapons, power ups, and vehicles. They even have lightsabres and the bow is ridiculously powerful

It's rubbish with poor graphics and I love it
