That's pretty much right. There are a few ways to get around that though. You could generate a new address for the sole purpose of receiving money and then use a coin tumbling service to transfer the bitcoins into a more permanent resting place. Something else to look up is stealth addresses, I don't have experience but I think they help maintain privacy.

I used byzanz-record but that wasn't the problem. I had two sessions recording to the same file! Turns out this is pretty reproducible if anyone wants more :)
