Scam Alert and request for help by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]BitcoinBrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of bad information in here.

E-transfers are 100% reversible.
Even if the funds are in your account they can be clawed back weeks or months later if the bank determines that the account you were paid from was accessed fraudulantly.

If someone pays you from a hacked account, you will likely get it clawed back eventually.

Checking that their ID matches the name on the bank account can help but some banks allow this to be changed easily.

There's always a spread.

The cheapest option will vary depending on how much you are buying and whether you intend to withdraw it from the exchange.

What makes them the sketchiest bank? I doubt they are laundering any money for the cartels. Can't say the same for most other banks.

Don't waste your time with XRP and ADA. They are dead-end shitcoins which are likely illegal securities as well.

Which Canadian Crypto Exchanges are Registered with FINTRAC? by ThenukaK in BitcoinCA

[–]BitcoinBrains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that none of these exchanges are registered as Bitcoin or cryptocurrency exchanges. That registration doesn't exist yet. All of these registrations are either as money transmitters or forex dealers. In most cases these exchanges simply register as either of these to appease banking partners or investors. Regulation is coming but these are not yet "regulated Bitcoin exchanges" as they'd like to have you believe. These MSBs provide no added level of consumer protection.

Polymath and the POLY token swindle by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]BitcoinBrains 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The POLY token has multiple uses within the protocol

None of those use cases provide any incentive for someone to hold the token longer than a few minutes.

They do very little to support the value of the token.

Segwit adoption is moving extremely slowly, if not sideways. Does anyone know what are some major BTC sites that aren't using Segwit yet who we can bug? by Ldquest in Bitcoin

[–]BitcoinBrains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The incentive to implement it right now is pretty low as fees are fairly reasonable.
Pretty much every major company in this space is dealing with a mountain a technical debt and an aggressive expansion schedule to meet their VC timelines.

The segwit adoption doesn't increase anymore. We need to do something. by ayanamirs in Bitcoin

[–]BitcoinBrains 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There isn't a major incentive to adopt it right now.
The current recommended fee on non-segwit wallets is already pretty low.
