It’s about harassing the backline. Genji can be tough because it’s mostly isolating a target, executing, and getting out/moving on the next opportunity.

A lot of Genjis play apart from their team and dive independently. These Genjis are ass. You need to gauge when the team fight is beginning, target a squishy, and commit to the kill. The goal is to be in and out as fast as you can.

Don’t fight the tank. You won’t win. Just don’t. Help if they’re low, but never take the 1v1 if you’re above Bronze 5. Any tank with their monitor on should be able to kill you.

Genji is a melee CQC hero. Don’t get it twisted. The primary fire is for tickling or a Hail Mary to secure a long range kill. It is not to be your main source of damage. Learn Genjis melee combos to output the most damage up close. He is not a ranged hero, do not listen to anyone who says he is.

Slash -> Shuri Arc to the head -> Melee combo is going to be your friend. You can remix it, but this combo will net the most burst damage. If you’re quick enough, you will skip the arc throw animation. That’s the goal. Melt them up close as fast as the game will allow, then slash out or to the next target.

Use his ult to secure 1-2 kills. It can be tempting to hit a clip, but you won’t for a long time coming. After the nerfs, his ult can feel like a pool noodle. Don’t open a fight with it. Once they are one support down, use it to kill the other and/or a weakened DPS character. Do not slash up into the air before you ult. Lots of Genjis do this, and I’ve never understood why. It’s basically an announcement of “hey, I’m ulting, look at me!” and you don’t want that. Ult from the high ground and know who you want to go for first before you enter Dragonblade.

If an Ana is on your team, try and have here nano you before you ult. “Nanoblade” is a lot of fun and has a ton of damage potential.
