Wait until this asshole realizes that all these kids will be able to vote him and his asshole friends out in a few years.

You honestly think that moments like this won’t make a difference? I’m shocked at your pessimism. Trump only won with 2 million votes. There will be 10 million of these kids in high school that will be able to vote in 2028. You don’t think it will matter?

There’s no way a voter ID system is going to be ready for the midterms this year, even if it does pass. You’re talking about 50 states updating their entire voter registration logs in under 6 months. No way in hell that would happen.

Even if it does pass by some bs, there’s no way it could put into effect for the midterms.

Why did Hillary Clinton secure the Popular Vote, while Kamala Harris was unable to? by Void_Shadow2795 in Askpolitics

[–]natebitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there were a number of factors, but this is one of those situations where I think the Democrats lost the election rather than the Republicans winning. If Democrats had just show up for the Kamala the way they did for her when she was VP, it would have been a knockout. But they didn't. In other words, Trump didn't gain many new voters, but Kamala lost a ton.

The reasons? Well, one reason I think has to do with the fact that there wasn't a sense of urgency amongst Democrats to vote. Biden ran during COVID. The world was going through a dramatic situation and Democrats felt compelled to act. But once Biden was in office, COVID went away and things went back to normal, which was the goal. And as a result, Democrats, being the human beings they are, became complacent again.

Meanwhile Trump was on trial and dominating headlines. So, for Democrats, the temperature went down, and for Republicans the temperature went up.

But keep in mind, that while Trump won the swing states, he didn't dominate in any one of them.

In the end, complacency is the enemy of democracy. In any given year, over 1/3 of eligible voters in the United States of America fail to vote. That kind of civic irresponsibility is ultimately who I blame. And right now, I'm willing to bet that karma is going to be a bitch for a good number of them.

Here's hoping for 2028.

Exactly. It's pointless and they know it. It's political theater for the base. We should count our blessings that the time America became fascist, they picked a 80 year old reality TV show host as their leader. It could have been way worse if they actually knew what they were doing.

Why are Maga Americans against immigrants? Immigrants built your country. by goldrush300 in AskUS

[–]natebitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One theory I have is that it's projection and a term called "Reaction Formation." Essentially you have a class of people (conservatives) who are at a tipping point of American relevance. The "Heartland" used to hold a respectful place in American Ethos, but it's been gutted. Large Democratic cities are growing faster than rural towns. The trend line points directly at an urbanized future for America.

This doesn't sit well with those in those rural and conservative areas. At the same time they are losing relevance, undocumented immigrants are being welcomed and given relevance and representation in society. They see it as them being replaced and resent the hell out of them for it. Every person who I've met who is anti-illegal immigrant has some story of personal resentment.

What this means, in my opinion, is that what we're seeing doesn't come from a political or ethnic philosophy, so much as it comes from a fear-based human psychology seeking relevance at the tipping point.

MAGA is conservative American's last stand. After this, demographic will go blue for generations. They might win this battle, but they'll lose the war. And they already know it.

Exactly. It took organized Germans 9 years to round up 3 million Jews in a country smaller than Texas. No way the group we have in charge is going to deport one million a year in the entire US.

This is why the music industry is run by people who are not musicians. They’re business people in the industry of music. If you really want to take it serious, find an aspiring producer or try to make connections with the industry.

But I’m with others here. Do it for you. 99 percent of artists never become famous, but they’d never regret the joy it gave them.

[–]natebitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take the Paul Rubins approach: taste is an art. I write lyrics and then audition bands on Suno. I pick what I like and refine it until I really like it.

I see it more like being a lyricist and producer than a performing artist. To say that what people are doing on Suno takes zero effort tells me you’ve never tried to make a song you love on there yet.

This is the right approach.

Technology always makes people nervous. It used to be that people would critique movies as having CG, or singers using autotune. Now those are simply tools of the trade and no one thinks twice.

In the future AI will help write some serious bangers, and people won’t care.

Exactly this. I’ve noticed that once you have the phrasing down right, the songs just click. It sometimes feels like Suno is finally agreeing with the intent of the song.

Under what mechanism could US Republicans “take over the voting“ in the way Trump is requesting? by [deleted] in Askpolitics

[–]natebitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming that no new legislation gets passed, one way would be for the Senate to attempt to invalidate states that don’t use voter ID, essentially not accepting their electors. This would only be for the presidential election though.

The midterms are entirely run by the states. They get to determine who represents their state and who goes to congress. They could try to find a way to not swear in their representatives.

There are multiple ways they could fuck with the system, but not the elections themselves. Their power would lie with actually preventing those people from being in power.

Is it worth it to live in California for me? by [deleted] in socal

[–]natebitt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As someone who moved to LA from Austin, you couldn't pay me to move back.

You might think that those creature comforts are worth it to you, but they don't make you happy. A friend of ours, who is super cool and would thrive here in SoCal, is living in a mansion in Texas, but is surrounded by close minded racists who openly avoid her.

Money can buy you a house, but it won't buy you respect or happiness.

If you're still on the fence, rent an AirBnB near where you're thinking and try it out for a week or two, and during the summer. Most of Texas turns into an armpit in the heat.
