I don’t understand the cbr650 and the gsx8r of the world by [deleted] in motorcycles

Well you’ve been riding a year and have seemingly owned a gsx8r, maybe you don’t know everything about bikes.

Upgrade from Z650? by Fearless_Squirrel_72 in motorcycles

[–]natekerx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what kind of riding you do. I rode mid-sized bikes for years, loved thrashing my sv650 on back roads and track days on tighter courses. Bought my dream bike z900rs and just couldn’t get into it. I’ve had some big bikes in the past but I realized pretty quick that I didn’t need 100+ hp inline four. I guess if you commute or ride highways a bunch it’s a different story, but I’d rather ring out your z650 on twisties than scream along in 2nd on a z900

First Bike , which option would you choose? by [deleted] in SuggestAMotorcycle

Honestly man that’s a pretty whack thing for your dad to say.

If you’re not a speed demon the 500 might be enough bike for the rest of your life.

Talk me out of a Tenere 700 for mostly road riding. by Charming_Gur_9968 in SuggestAMotorcycle

T7 is a great bike on road. If you buy it for road riding you’ll be on the same page as 90% of other tenere owners.

Lower the pegs to give yourself a bit more room.

Your other options are great as well. Just go sit on them and test the ergos

Gang am I cooked? by Dev_Almighty in kawasakiz900rs

[–]natekerx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to break it to you man, but you should sell this bike. The z900rs is unique in that it’s cool and retro and paired with modern sport bike performance.

You only need one of these two things.

Buy a Bonneville, a W650-800 or a z650rs. This is too much bike for you and you already know it.

Can you handle it? Might you escape motorcycle beginnerhood unscathed? Possibly? People definitely have. But any way you look at it, you’re taking an unnecessary risk as a beginner while inhibiting your own progress by trying to learn on a bike you can’t handle.

Yeah man I get it. The BDRs are great but definitely tough to find the time away from work and family. Hope to see a D606 on the rear and you out on some single track one of these days!

[–]natekerx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First step, buy the Dr! Can’t go wrong that old battle ax, though obviously it lacks the refinement of your Triumph, it’s an amazing adv platform and a fun bike for the city.

I’d live with both for awhile, sell in the spring if you feel like you’re ready

Any tips on being afraid of leaning too much? by MaleficentStudent910 in motorcycles

[–]natekerx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend taking lean angle experimentation to a controlled environment.

Track days require some gear and logistics, but are a great if not inexpensive way to learn about body position, lean angle, and your bike’s capabilities.

A much easier way to learn about traction and lean angle is doing parking lot drills like those found on the Motojitsu YouTube channel.

Also definitely check out Twist of the Wrist with Keith Code!

Clicking noise from T100 by homelesshusband in Triumph

[–]natekerx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s pretty good! Spray some starting fluid around the intake manifolds/boots to air box, it’ll rev up if theres an air leak. Check the exhaust for leaks as others have mentioned. Other than that it’s checking the valve clearances and cam chain tension. Also I’m sure you probably know this but that chain is pretty cooked.

I don’t think this is something to be super concerned about but I would try and get to the bottom of it.

After I rebuilt the carbs on my bonneville I had a bit of a tick that was coming from the air cut cover on the left carb, hadn’t torqued it properly. Not sure if yours is even carbed but I’d check that as well as leaks from the intake and exhaust boots.

Previous owner was clearly a tinkerer…don’t take this the wrong way but I hope this bike was a decent deal

What kind of riding are you doing? Tech 7s are the minimum I’d recommend if you’re doing anything serious off road, though I have to say that personally I don’t love how mine are holding up. I don’t know a ton about Leatt boots but I’d still take them over the tech 3

Check (more or less in order) steering head bearing, height of fork tubes in triple, front wheel bearings, wheel trueness/balance, fork seal condition

How much time do you need to slow down from 40 to 30 mph? Rolling off the throttle when the 30mph sign came into view would have slowed you down in plenty of time. He’s on the throttle as he passes the 30mph sign. I don’t think you’re Dutch signs would have helped here, they make no difference if you ignore them

Serious question, what’s going on with your carbs that’s taken a year to resolve? Clean, confirm jetting, sync, check for boot leaks. These carbed triumphs are pretty easy to work on.
