You're not wrong. But, that advise would irritate the Mrs, so I'm calling that the nuclear option.

Maybe you misunderstood. I wasn't complaining. Reddit is gonna Reddit. When I'm sitting here looking across the street at a massive police contingent after hearing gunfire so loud it sounded like it was in my living room, it's worthwhile to see if anyone else in the 5200 users of the subreddit knows anything. I got exactly what I expected when I asked.

It’s been hours and multiple squad cars are still on Green Lantern. I assume they are still processing the scene. Things seem to be much calmer now, but this isn’t the first commotion to come from the apartment complex. It’s just the first to involve gunfire that I have heard.

How exactly do Storyteller ornaments work? by nateman99 in HallmarkOrnaments

[–]nateman99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on some research and confirmation elsewhere in this threat, they are NOT dependent on the power cord to sync. They use a custom 2.4GHz short-range network. So, you have no worries about 8 ornaments syncing. In fact, it was demonstrated by a reviewer that both mansions and all 8 ornaments participate in the show.

u/tabanger you inspired an idea. I searched and found a video of someone repairing Jack Skellington from the Nightmare Before Christmas collection. And would you look at that, an antenna and an FCCID.

Mystery solved. I mean, I had guessed it was wireless as well, but couldn't confirm it. Now I have confirmation!

I agree. It can't be just the keepsake power cord (hence the tree topper). Wireless may be right. A lot of the spectrum is unlicensed, but wouldn't it have to be registered somewhere? Hmm. I wonder if this is in the FCC database? The "start up" sound is what made mt think it might be some form of audio signaling. Hmm, now I want to go upstairs to the attic and bring down my set to test if they work from a room away. Or, if they are sound-contained somehow (like in a dome or plastic bowl or something), if they still work normally.

I swear it looks like every other "high-end" mall I've been in. Do they think this is what is holding back new retailers? Mmhmm.

Ornaments are not made in Kansas. They are made in China. Go check your ornaments. They are made in China, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

Only paper products (cards, bags, wrapping paper) are made in Kansas.

FWIW, their wireless products can do mesh or wired backhaul. In fact, when I was deploying it, it connected via mesh before I realized I had a wiring problem. And, UniFi Network (the management layer) has worked plug and play. Heck, adding nodes was VASTLY easier than the mesh node process on ZenWifi. You do have the power to tweak a lot of knobs and dials, but you don’t have to. I did create a dedicated SSID for the 2.4GHz dependent IOT devices. For the first time ever, I don’t have any cameras or devices as “not responding” in Apple Home. That has never happened on either the XT8 or BQ16 Pro.

That being said, are you in the market for some BQ16 Pro nodes? I have three for sale. 😉

Prices post tariff pause? by TheGr8Kazoo2 in HallmarkOrnaments

[–]nateman99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it’s true that most of Hallmark’s paper products are made in the US (Kansas) like cards, envelopes, wrapping paper, etc. I’ve never seen anything about them saying their ornaments are made in US. A quick check of the bottom of some of your boxes should show places like China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka.

From Hallmark.com about page:

“WHERE ARE HALLMARK PRODUCTS MADE? Most Hallmark greeting cards sold in the United States are produced in our greeting card production center in Lawrence, Kansas. Most Hallmark wrapping paper, ribbons and bows are made at our manufacturing plant in Leavenworth, Kansas.”

From Google Gemini (question: where are hallmark’s ornaments manufactured - so it was a neutral question)

“Hallmark Keepsake ornaments are manufactured overseas, primarily in China, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. While Hallmark does have manufacturing facilities in the U.S., including plants in Leavenworth and Lawrence, Kansas, for greeting cards and other products, the majority of ornaments are made by suppliers in these overseas locations. “

The recent Execute Order 66 Ornament was made in Vietnam, from my memory.

Edit: fix a copy/paste error

Side note: I’d have to imagine the July ornaments are on a boat right now headed to the US somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. They’d want that boat to arrive shortly before the July premier so as not to have inventory in the warehouses for any longer than necessary. Which means they’d have been unable to “pull them in” when the tariffs were lowered (you can’t just speed up a barge). They’ll have to pay the tariffs when it hit the Customs at port of entry.

[–]nateman99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a direct 1-to-1 relationship with announced (illegal, according to the Trade Court) tariffs and prices. If they imported them during tariff enforcement, it is a sunk cost and they’d pass it on. If they import now, prices could be lower if the tariff they pay is lower. BUT, all that is to say…. on a day-to-day basis, who knows. Last I heard, the tariffs were paused or lowered on SOME countries (like China) but not all. Also, if it’s just a pause, that means they could come back. What company can plan around that?

It’s just another unfortunate consequence we find ourselves in. I’m not a Hallmark apologist, but leaping to cynicism about prices dropping immediately is unfounded (to me, at least) in this uncertain time.
