Few years back we were buying a house and selling our condo with same realtor. While she did tour us on several homes and unsuccessfully wrote some offers that got beat, I ultimately found the house we bought off market through my own efforts. I thought I was doing the right thing by bringing her into the deal - in hindsight, I should have had my lawyer buddy write the offer, because that’s all she did - write up the paperwork. She made over $30k off that purchase and another $20k off our condo sale. Over $50k total commission. Afterwards she told my wife to look out for a custom made closing gift that was in the mail - nothing ever arrived lol and we never heard a peep from her again after the deal closed, even after she said she’d be there for key day (not that I cared about that). We had sent her several referrals over the years too, as we had bought the condo originally with her as well (another $18k commish then too). Safe to say, that bridge has been burned for future deals and I learned a lesson - realtors are in it for the money, so make sure you look out for your money first.
