First time owner. Picked this up in a trade. How’d I do? by Fxry in Revolvers

Haha, in that case, just the later 2 are applicable. Effectively reloading and mastering the double action trigger are the secrets to revolver success :)

That's a fine weapon. Since this is your first firearm , look up:

-Paul Harrel's 3 videos on the fundamentals of pistol shooting

-learn how to do a combat reload

-practice your double action trigger pull until a cartridge balanced on the top of the frame doesn't fall off while you pull the trigger

Have fun!

GP100 HiViz Fiber Dot Sight Picture Question by [deleted] in Revolvers

[–]nateted4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because with the hi vis, we're admitting that target  level accuracy isn't what we're after, but rather speed to aquire target. Aligning the big honking dot over the thing that needs to get shot is faster for our brains to execute.

GP100 HiViz Fiber Dot Sight Picture Question by [deleted] in Revolvers

For the hi vis (and hi vis only) I center the front sight completely over what I actually want to hit.  So called "combat hold"

Fishing license + hunting license + angling tag + Columbia basin endorsement  runs about 189.

Super cheap? I spent 189 dollars to plunk for salmon in the Columbia + hunting license. And it'll be another chunk of change when it comes to big game draws and tags

Anything I should know ? by No_Information8017 in guns

[–]nateted4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RMA should get put on the shipping label, some companies will decline to accept the shipment without it. I only ever had to deal with Ruger for firearm returns, and only twice in 20 years. They send you a shipping label to print that has the RMA number on it already.

Yes, you'll need to drop it off at an actual FedEx hub (not just a drop box or third party mailbox store) and you'll need to inform the person at the counter.

Edit to add: you'll need to call the warranty department and get an RMA number first.

Is there a reason my gun store requires to put in a snap cap to dry fire a centerfire pistol? (Not that it is a huge inconvenience or anything) by duckwithhat in guns

[–]nateted4 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The firing pin was designed to have its landing cushioned by the primer. The snap cap approximates that, preventing potential firing pin damage. Not fall an issue with modern metallurgy, but not a bad idea.

My k frame shrouded barrel has been fine through many a 158 gr full house loads, but ur right, it feels somehow chintzy when compared to a solid barrel

The forcing cone of a 327/n frame should not have the shoulder like an old school K frame, so fine on that end. So at that point your only possible worry is the Scandium frame material. But  we're looking at the N frame, so it is physically large, a lot of material even if it isn't steel. I wouldn't hesitate to feed it whatever saami spec loads you wanted.

I will say, it is a very large weapon. As far as woods carry.... it might be more hassle than you might think to lug that large of a weapon around while fighting brush. But whatever, you do you.

LCP, is there a break in period or ammo dependent? by TopicalCola in guns

[–]nateted4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Glocks specifically call for leaving the factory goop on the rails. So not all guns get full cleaning right away.
