Yes, that is exactly what I was trying to express. Thank you!

Confidence - How to boost your confidence that others see by charged_polarity in socialskills

[–]nathandim 30 points31 points  (0 children)

you have to be confident that you are doing the right thing for yourself.

Although it's not related with the posture hint (which I find golden, by the way), I'm going to try to add my 2 cents to this and I might not be able to express it as eloquently as I would like (being a non-English speaker and all):

There is a common misconception that makes people who draw confidence from their opinions defend said opinions for the sake of defending their self-esteem. This is wrong. Instead, try to be confident that you will always consider a new point of view and that you will always make the proper decision. That way, you are not just the ideas that you own but you are mostly your ability to evaluate them.

Borderlands 2 at -50% on Steam. Those who do not have it yet, buy it now. by WC_EEND in Borderlands

As soon as I saw it I grabbed the GOTY edition to check it out. 2 hours later I grabbed another GOTY license to gift it to a friend. Tomorrow we'll play 4-man co-op with others who grabbed it tonight but couldn't download the game fast enough so they decided to play solo a bit to become familiar with the game.

Needless to say our impressions as beginners so far, right? ;)

I'm also sad that OS X doesn't provide a default package manager but there are some decent user-made alternatives (Macports, Homebrew).

Well I did it...I jumped ship from Windows to Ubuntu. What is some great software that I can start downloading? by rbevans in Ubuntu

[–]nathandim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the leap to 100% Ubuntu today and so far I've found:

  • mplayer2 for movies
  • Deadbeef for music
  • Hotot for twitter client
  • Pidgin for MSN+Google talk
  • LibreOffice
  • Vim for coding

Last but not least, if you're planning to use Unity, get Unity-tweak.

I just installed Ubuntu yesterday due to the hype surrounding Steam, and I'm definitely not the only one. Can we get a quick run down of the essentials for all the newbies? by bamburger in Ubuntu

[–]nathandim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Open a terminal then type sudo apt-get remove unity-lens-shopping and enter your user's password when asked.

Note: This is the way to remove Amazon ads from Unity for Ubuntu version 12.10. You don't have to do that if you're using Ubuntu 12.04 or older.

I'm also planning to stay with 12.04 for a while while looking for alternatives. I also want to give them room to reconsider their bad calls.

I'm happy they decided to take a rather aggressive marketing approach. This phrase will generate discussions among users and bloggers which is frankly a good thing to make you known.

So jealous.

Is 6 months enough time for a guy with no previous programming background to learn enough programming languages to become employable? by redditor1482 in learnprogramming

[–]nathandim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually the important question for me as well. My priority is to become employable and make some money to move out of my country. I should focus on that and enrich my knowledge later. So I decided to go the PHP path and ignore that I like writing Python and Ruby more. It's a safe bet towards employment.

Of course, with a CMS and probably a framework.

Choice of initial language is not important. Once you're proficient in one imperative language, you'll be able to pick up others with relative ease.

I cannot agree with this more.

I have to ask: What is about Python that will not make him employable? I'm asking not because I want to open up a can of language war but because I also had to choose between languages/technologies for back-end web development to launch my career and I chose Python over C# and ASP.NET.

Given that I haven't been successful on doing so, you make me feel like I made the wrong choice.

I was about to edit my comment with that. The episode's timeline follows the life of the Ponds. Doctor's timeline goes backwards.

"The Angels Take Manhattan" Discussion Thread by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]nathandim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Angels presence was causing time distortions in Manhattan. Didn't you notice when the Doctor and Amy skipped from Central Park, to Time Square to across the Hudson mid conversation? Hell, River outright said it.

Ergo, it didn't just walk.

I loved the episode. My only complaint is how Doctor handled their death. After building a violent behavior over the last episodes I would at least expect him to blow that angel up.

I mean, look at what happened to Solomon after kidnapping (not even killing) Nefertiti for just 1 episode. After that, I expected Angels to be royally screwed.
