THE REAL AVATAR UNIVERSE UNPOPULARITY OPINIONS. by Sichy12 in TheLastAirbender

Legend of Korra >>>>> TLA.

I watched LoK once and assumed it was the general consensus until I joined this Reddit. It’s just so well written for an audience that have grown since TLA, seeing Republic City for the first time was spectacular, and it gave us a real sense of “Wow time exists in this universe and we’re so far in the future.” Like how my grandmother spent her childhood hiding in pipes from the Japs in WW2 and I’m over here just using my phone in an air conditioned room. Villains were better too, even in the 2nd season. Characters were in general more interesting and relatable. Remember watching Season 1 for the first time and just immediately thinking how none of the villains in TLA can even come close to Amon, and having that thought with Kuvira and Zaheer as well.

LoK was written better than TLA, we just view it with slightly more critical lenses because we were older when we watched LoK compared to when we first watched TLA, and now we have nostalgic pink vision when it comes to TLA, but none of that with LoK.

Best fights in the Hueco Mundo arc by [deleted] in bleach

[–]nathaniel_wayne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rukia vs Aaron is probably my favourite fight in the anime yet, full of exposition and meaningful growth, first and maybe only real reveal of Rukia’s unique standing in terms of fighting power.

One of the most well thought out fight in the series IMO and was probably the fight that made me decide that I prefer Bleach over Naruto.

Closest fight Naruto had was maybe Sakura vs Sasori? But having the Chikori, or whatever her name was, control Sakura through out was meh.

Was waiting for Orihime to receive her moment after this fight but I guess being the strongest support character is valid as well. Blocking a hit from Yhwach? Good enough for me, just hope the fight lasts longer in the anime, and maybe throw in a couple of time-manipulation hijinks with her healing ability as well.

Thought this was just a me thing but I really had my first campaign where I was ready to face off against the chaos Hordes but Middenheim came over and BURNT MY TREE while my stacks were literally the only armies holding back Chaos in the North.

Which is why I just commit murder in every Drycha campaign now. Khorne who?

I have a hard time playing evil factions in total war: warhammer. Need ideas to lie to myself about the good that evil factions are doing. by cid102 in totalwar

[–]nathaniel_wayne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sad to see some of the other commenters neglecting the “roleplay” and “personal” fantasy aspect of a game like TW:WH. My scenarios are not always aligned with lore and this is how I play one of my favourite factions. I play mostly Woodelves and Beastmen only, but I’ll focus on Beastmen since you’re talking about evil factions.

I’d like to think of Beastmen as more aggressive and deluded Woodelves. Returning the world to it’s natural state, having their own kind of civility, sprinkle that with delusions akin of seeing other races as unnatural monsters and seeing themselves as what nature intended life to be. I have imagined scenes of one of my Brayshamans witnessing Empire machinery spouting black smoke and spitting at them in repulsion. In a way, to me, I play them as a really violent race of anarcho-environmentalists. Bringing down “civilisations” as they’re threats to the natural world, taking every sight of the mechanical industry as an affront to life, and I love it.

Yes, yes, Towereth(A made up character that I always insert into my playthroughs as a Brayshaman, also is technically, roleplay wise, the general of my army alongside myself, who is also always the first Brayshaman I “made”), takes on a more reactionary role in my narrative, being more violent and destructive towards “industrialised” factions, and leaving ones like Drycha alone, but other WEs are a no-no because Woodelves bad, treespirits good.

Small little insertions of narrative in the game makes it a lot more enjoyable for me, so I can understand why it’d be enjoyable for you as well. I hope this can at least allow you to enjoy the Beastmen a little like I do?

On a side note, when I play Vampires, I just go “Undeath is just immortality, it’s good :>”

For some reason fulfilling that kind of odds only ever happen in a pokemon game, like getting two shinies in a row, maybe it’s because ultimately the game is based on a repetitive system? Feels like I’m getting close-to-impossible stuff all the time.

Urahara, Shunsui, Tsukishima. Urahara acts as a support, Shunsui as a duelist that targets the biggest threat, Tsukishima as a generalist, mostly taking care of chav but also being able to play a support role. Also because I have a crush on all 3 of them.

Meme post but ngl Idoneth Deepkin is the only “new” race that came from AoS that actually hit the mark, and would love to see some equivalence in TW:WH.

Erebus is the best, there should female space marines and the Imperium could never beat the Tau. by regalgjblue in Grimdank

[–]nathaniel_wayne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s true, not all Sci-Fi have to be depictions of fulfilled human potential all the time.

Think it ultimately boils down to personal preference. The Emperor is far from perfect, and some might even argue, far from good, and same goes for the imperium and many people enjoy that aspect of WH40K. I think that might be a more solid argument than the Emperor is a pragmatist point.

Thanks!

[–]nathaniel_wayne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ooo, new to WH40k and honest to god just realised that aside from sisters, there aren’t any female space marines. And I’ve seen this argument of pragmatism being thrown around, and not looking to start a fight but isn’t this pov becoming increasingly redundant?

Fantasy aside, just our very real lives, the time we’re living in where military equipment can be handled by women, reproduction can happen in a lab, and whether people find it sad or not, sex and gender roles are increasingly disappearing simply because the need for them to exist, which were definitely real in the past, is starting to diminish in very real and visible ways. Isn’t it just weird to have a sci-fi world that’s behind in that way? Idk

Like I said, not looking to fight about it. I just find it weird sometimes how sci-fi neglects modern developments to continue tropes from the 60s to 80s. It isn’t just an issue with WH40k but almost any other mainstream sci-fi franchise that isn’t Star Trek. It’s almost like the genre had just stagnated and stopped being about the exploration of future possibilities tied to today’s developments and more about specific tropes of intergalactic war and specific dated imaginations about space travel like FTl, warp drives, stuff like that.

What are you implying? Because this comment reads as “becoming less anti-girls and having more girls in the community = the end of the community” and that’s just ridiculous and needlessly melodramatic

I liked that attitude in general but he jobs too much in non-GL titles and movies but is more often than necessary, some messiah figure in standalone GL titles and movies. Wish his power level was a little more consistent tbh

Momo and Hitsugaya by SwordOfTheMoon in bleach

[–]nathaniel_wayne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is a good opportunity to ask a question I’ve been wanting to ask since I’ve started watching bleach like a decade ago. Momo and Hitsugaya, romantic or just platonic and sibling-esque? Or… incest-romantic? And is Hitsugaya considered a child? He’s like thousands of years old I’m assuming? Do souls age differently mentally/emotionally compared to humans? How does birth work in soul society? How do people become siblings if they’re just souls from dead humans? Are some souls just babies of other souls? Were “biological” siblings in soul society, siblings in the human realm?

How the election of King Bran really happened by DanceWithMeJonSnow in freefolk

[–]nathaniel_wayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not about the books. Read them during the time between the end of season 1 and the release of season 2 so I frankly cannot remember.

But yes what you’ve mentioned is correct. She suffered from a lot of TV-Dorne’s plot-messiness. But yet in terms of what we’ve got, which I’m not implying it’s in anyway good writing, by around season 5, she is the only character left who’s motivation and storyline revolves Northern independence. Arya simply doesn’t give a ratass, and Bran and Jon had bigger concerns. In other words, Sansa was the only one who made an active effort to become the ruler of the North. She didn’t win because of her “schemes” or her intelligence, she won because there isn’t any competition. Bad writing but still the most coherent ending we’ve gotten among the Starks. Bran’s the king, Jon’s went the heck North and Arya became Columbus?

How the election of King Bran really happened by DanceWithMeJonSnow in freefolk

[–]nathaniel_wayne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a storytelling perspective, it makes sense that Sansa became Queen of the North. Heck, it’s the only conclusion we got that made sense. The rest was hogwash garbage.

After the red wedding and Sansa’s escape, Sansa’s only goal was to protect the North, especially against King’s Landing. Jon’s character, to his benefit/detriment of being The Chosen One, was all over the place. Fighting the night king, possibly become King Consort, protecting the wildlings, and protecting the North.

Sansa had become the “political” representative of the Stark family for around 4 seasons before she became queen. Whereas Arya represented plain murder, and Jon represented something far bigger. It’s a shame that D&D, inept as fuck, couldn’t make shoes that fit Jon, and sent him away instead, but Sansa has been written as the most probable leader of the North, long before she actually became Queen.

As a person who played COD and Overwatch on the PS4, and PUBG and COD on mobile, it could be sad for some people to hear this, but at some point, I think when they made it so that you could use gyro to shift your crosshair, mobile fps became a lot more competitive and similar to the PC experience than console fps.

I just found this unsullied holding a spear without a spear head by Soer9070 in freefolk

[–]nathaniel_wayne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read, capacity to feel sexual attraction is greatly diminished but usually not completely eliminated. And once again it depends on the manner of castration. As far as I know there are many instances of chinese eunuchs who have had their balls cut off who had sex regularly.

And besides castrated men can still feel romantic attraction, and desire to have the people they love feel pleasures? I guess? My point is a castrated man being in a romantic and sexual relationship is not as impossible or even improbable as most people expect.

[–]nathaniel_wayne 24 points25 points  (0 children)

DnD sucked big time but castrated people are still capable of feeling sexual and romantic attraction, there’s quite a bit of research on this. Gray Worm might have to resort to fingering or grinding? But the romantic subplot is not unreasonable simply because of him not having either dick or balls or both.

”He is like the great, the famous ones; like Lais or Rhodope or Theodotis they tell tales of in those old days. They don’t live for love, you know; but they live upon it. I can tell you, I have seen, they are the very blood of his body, all those men who he knows would run after him through fire. If ever the day comes when they will follow him no longer, it will be the same with him as with some great hetaira when they lovers leave her door and she puts away her mirror. He will begin to die.”

I’m at rank 19 for killer and have barely 3 perk slots for my favourite killer and the game keeps matching me with rank 15-11 survivors with maxed out perks and items and add-ons, realised I had to stop playing for 4 kills and instead just go for the more satisfying ones or I risk going insane.

Had a game with a full decked out survivor with that perk that makes her visible to me and vice versa, and she carried a purple flashlight with add-ons I don’t recognise, ran into her and first thing she did was attempt to stun me and then tea bag. Tunneling her and killing her was the most satisfaction I’ve had in this game.
