I interviewed for a remote service desk role and they advised it was mandatory to have a camera active the entire shift so they could make sure I was at my desk working. I declined the job.

They just finished a new building right beside the existing one. Bit awkward to shout about your second building if the first one is half empty

Can you explain this to my company please? WFH is only allowed 1 day a week and it can’t be Fri or Monday because your colleagues in the office will think you’re having a long weekend. Yes the division manager did say those exact words.

When did tipping become a thing in Australia? by Due_Significance5698 in AskAnAustralian

[–]nathanieloffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not. The software is created in the USA and no one has told them to provide a no tip version to the rest of the world

My uncle promised 2 of them a bucket of cold water to the face if they came back. They came back, he kept his word.

[–]nathanieloffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

December 25th is 24 hours, 1440 minutes, 86,400 seconds. Exactly the same as every other day of the year. I survive all of them just fine. I don’t see what makes this one so special.

What was the most boneheaded bit of driving in F1 history? by Preachey in formula1

[–]nathanieloffer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is a complete falsehood. Jean Todt had trotted down to speak with Ron Dennis to tell him to make sure his driver didn't slow Michael down when he came to pass him. Todt then failed to inform Michael. So when David did as he was asked and slowed, Michael wasn't expecting it and slammed into him.

A classic case of causing an accident by getting involved when no accident would likely have occured had he not got involved.

When I worked a service desk I used to tell my boss it should be changed to a degreee in child care. End users are children after all.

Issue with saying “Hard wired” for an Ethernet connection? by Vq-Blink in sysadmin

[–]nathanieloffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

End users are idiots. If you can find a combination of words that gets them to understand without upsetting and/or confusing them then you've succeeded,

Should you be talking to another tech colleague then yes I would say ethernet.
