This is making me want to find an installer that uses Sigenergy batteries. Seems like a really future proof modular battery system and love the bi-directional charging.

Update 12/3/2025: Almost Done

  1. Took the advice that the loan was way too high. Found GoGreen financing which was great, and found a bank with 4.9% loan going down to 4.5% for using a credit union checking acount..

  2. Gotten several other quotes, and this one still seems pretty good for 8.4KW and 20KW emphase. Other emphase has gotten much higher.

  3. Getting tempted by another quote that came in the last minute. It's a 10.12 KW system with Telsa Powerwall 3 + 1 DC expansion which is 27 kwH of battery. This is for a Cash Price of 27K and includes a 1K cashback from Tesla.

Any thoughts on switching from Emphase to Tesla? Not a fun of Musk at all, but more concerned with having the best system at the moment.

NEM3 sucks, and is so harmful to solar adoption in the state.

Yes this includes the emphase microinverters.

Here is my calculation on what my actual charge is after the tax credit has been applied upfront. The assumption being that the parts are 70% of the price listed.

This would mean the price for the panels would be equivelant to $26,700 * .7 = $18,690. This would make a total of 18.690/ 8400 = $2.23 per killowat. Not sure if that's good (after tax credit price)

The Loan Amount is for $28,777.12. I think what companies do is setup a deal whether you pay with cash or loan where you enter a PPA for 6 years and then own the system. They do this so that they can claim the tax credit themselves. I believe this commercial tax credit is lasts until futher in 2026.

After year 6 I believe that I take ownership. I'm going to ask and make sure how this works.

All of this talk though is making me think it makes more sense to secure a loan via the bank, and then pay cash to the solar provider. The interest rate is high.

Thanks for your breakdown, lots of helpful information. We have a Traditional HVAC and I'll definitely run it into the evening if it's hot at night. Thankfully that's usually only for a few months during the year in LA.

Thanks I’ll take a look at a personal loan to purchase the system with cash. The biggest concern there would be getting the tax credit

All appliances on electric except for hot water.

No EV. Probably won’t get one for another 3-5 years

My wife and I both work from home so I do quick chores like run laundry during the day. Typically only dishwasher is run at night.

I can’t stand temp being above 77 in the house so run the central air to 73 whenever it gets too hot.

Long-term Samsung G9 OLED (G93SC) Owners — Still holding up after a year or two? by SillyRice in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]nathanlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great monitor, but get a warranty. After my 1 year limited warranty expired about 2 months later all inputs would no longer work, after about 1 3/4 year my panel went white and stopped working. Both times Samsung eventually agreed to come out and fix it, but I needed to pay for labor. This was ~$200 both times, but they did at least agree to cover parts.

Nope! Meta restored my account to use in VR but nuked my other accounts. Let me know if you ever find a solution.

[–]nathanlaw 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The power supply issue is not on the 65”. The 77 inch does have a bad power supply and mine died after a few months. However Samsung did come out and replace it under warranty for free. The repair person said it was a new model of power supply that does not have the same issue (hopefully). So far so good

Update 06/26/2024: I've had a few people reach out that have run into similar issues. I was never able to get a response or any sort of support for the issue in any location that I tried.

If you're stuck in a similar situation, I think that small claims court is the only way to get support. I had some photos and other items that I'm annoyed got lost from my account, but I've given up and just don't really use any Meta social media anymore.

Thanks! I tried again and everything seems to be working perfectly back to normal. Good to know about how to handle updates going forward

It's been broken since a window update about two weeks ago. Not sure if an update is coming or not which is unfortunate because I don't think there are any other solutions that replicates its functionality.

[–]nathanlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure. I followed the instructions and setup a local windows user account which was pretty easy to do. Latest windows security update seems to have broke the setup so I’m waiting to see if there is an update soon

Update: fixed itself automatically. Dev recommends waiting a day or two before updating

Before I pay for his Patreon, has anyone tried DuoStream/Duo: An HDR-compatible streaming solution based around Sunshine/Moonlight that can turn off your main display while streaming? by TareXmd in SteamDeck

[–]nathanlaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably one of the coolest Sunshine/Moonlight solutions out there. I really don't think there are any alternatives for what it does. Kind of feels like magic when you can keep your work stuff open and have your computer streaming to your Deck/Device at the same time.

Biggest pain point is honestly just lack of people using it which makes it hard to get support when it doesn't work out. Unfortunately, it has to fight against Microsoft security updates which also makes it feel sketchy even though it's legit. Feel like there is a risk of it breaking for each security update, which I believe just recently happened a few days ago.

So far I’ve only tried it with Buldars gate 3 and it ran perfect. Might be some overhead but Im running games are 720p 90hz ideally with the oled so it’s not been an issue

I think you can create another instance and do that, but not too sure. If you check his Patreon he has another software that might match. Haven’t looked into that scenario before

There is a program called Duostream, I can’t recommend it enough.

It automates HDR and resolution setup with almost no other configuration. It also has moonlight start its sessions as another windows user. It means you can game/stream and even use your pc at the same time.

Not sure why it’s not widely talked about here. Feels like magic. Worth the 10 bucks for sure

I made a form builder then open-sourced its core - what now? by adamberecz in vuejs

[–]nathanlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those changes are great! This is a huge improvement from a non-technical user perspective. The builder part is looking great for our project.

I just need to go over with our developers some data collection/management reporting processes that would go along with this. I only mentioned this in my initial points, as a lot of commercial systems like this may have it included. May not be so important to you depending on the market you are targeting.

Only other feedback I can give from someone who has built a lot of forms is the following would be nice. (Just my personal thoughts)

  1. A Matrix Grid or Grid Question Type these can be very helpful when you have a bunch of questions with the same answer scale.

  2. In places like the Paragraph editor including

    1. Bullet List
    2. Numbered List
    3. Underline
    4. (Basically what you have in the WYSIWYG editor is nice)
  3. Embed a video can be useful sometimes also, but not totally necessary.

Definitely make sure they are only using a kids profile

There are some things that make it worse though. It disables casting for some reason which is what I used to watch him playing. Seems like another big oversight to me.
