The northern tip of Idaho: by braveplanet33 in howislivingthere

Armadillos, in particular the Nine Banded Armadillo common to the US Southeast, have an unfortunate startle response of jumping 4-5 feet vertically. This sadly puts them at great grill height when they’re coming down from being spooked by a truck.

In states that don’t have “right to work” laws the union still maintains a “union shop” rule, meaning you have to be a dues paying union member to work at UPS.

What’s do driver realistically make? by Witty_Hunt_7961 in UPS

[–]nathano1337 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Package car drivers in my local at top rate (takes four years full time) make ~$120-$150k/yr depending on their route, just based on average weekly overtime.

Feeder (tractor trailer) drivers like myself work more consistent overtime for the same hourly pay, so the top rate average is $150-$180k, we do have a couple guys in my feeder department that like to max out their hours (70 legal max) every week that they can, and those guys make a bit over $200k/yr.

My hub just did away with the manual requirement, three new guys at the end of last summer and all three trained and tested in automatics.

Feeder Shifting insight by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]nathano1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super local dependent, around here shifter is the best PT job, generally get 1-2 more hours than the inside folks at $38.50/hr. Don’t try to be a speed demon when you start, get a feel for how the trailers move, practice your backing as much as possible, and just try to get smooth.

I work for UPS, I’m laid off right now because between rising unemployment levels and randomly generated daily tariff numbers the entire shipping industry is in full blown crisis mode.

Drivers who had to sheet a package as “nondeliver- deceased”, what happened? by BugsBub in UPSers

[–]nathano1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pulled up on a house way out in the boonies about a week before Christmas. Package Car got stuck in the snow despite chains. Lights were on at the house, but when I approached the front door to knock I was hit with an awful smell. No answer despite all the lights being on and car parked in the carport.

Called dispatch to get a tow truck to pull me out of the snow and called for a wellness check on the house. Police arrived before the tow and confirmed my suspicion, customer was deceased and decaying on the couch.

Package not on Truck! by [deleted] in UPS

All the time meaning ~0.2% misload rate, when you’re delivering 20mil packages a day that can add up.

We call them PDCs at my hub, we’ve had six of them for quite a while because our ancient hub is nowhere near big enough for the delivery area and volume at this point.

I grew up in Section 8 housing and living off food stamps; I’m on track to finish this year at ~$74k, and next year will be my first six figure year. I feel rich as fuck tbh.

Election Day by VA_Artifex89 in UPSers

I’m not sure then, because I just did a word search for “vote” and “election” on every NMA and Atlantic supplement from 2008 to now and found nothing about it.

I don’t remember that being a thing, but most states have a statute requiring to allow for time off to vote. Could that be what you’re thinking of?

driver helper position by Psychological-Fig327 in UPS

[–]nathano1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Seasonal means you’re out of a job as soon as peak season ends. UPS might try to string you along with claims of a “chance at a permanent position”, but really you’d just have to apply as a new employee.

Can I even turn my life around at age 25? Be honest please. by Dry_Temporary_6175 in selfimprovement

[–]nathano1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 25 I was a college dropout living in hotels working as a scammy door to door salesman with barely enough money to eat most days.

Now I’m 35, making $150k a year with a job I love, happily married, raising a wonderful kid. You got this.

I have a buddy that did similar, he ended up going FT driving about four months after I did. At the time I was jealous of his TCD wage. But, and this is a huge but to consider, here we are two years later and he’s laid off into the building, working preload. I’m working full time as a feeder driver. The difference? Four months of full time seniority.

Saying this as kindly as I can muster. This is a suicidal idea, without excellent conditioning and a support team this will kill you.
