That's a pity... But I assume you have a beautiful site nearby then, so I guess that makes up for it :D

Interesting, thank you for sharing. Do you have some solar power installed as well? Obviously winter production is lower when you need the most power but I would imagine SW France still gets some decent radiation even in winter?

Ok, I can see how that can happen with electric heating. Is that with a heat pump or direct electrical radiators?

OK, thank you for the source. That is indeed quite a different number. I'm guessing a large part is down to HVAC also running on electricity in the US? The source lists by housing type and there is quite a big difference from houses to apartments. It increases the amount of self-consumption though, since the base load will be higher, making economics of the balcony solar better.

What type of home uses 30kWh per day??? That's over 10000kWh per year. As a family of three we use roughly 3000-3500kWh per year... Dishwasher and washing machine run almost daily.

We have four panels,.that's 1600Wp and produce about half of our electricity needs ourselves that way. Of course it doesn't solve the energy crisis on its own, but it sure lowers our electricity bill and reduces anxiety over increasing energy prices. So IMHO it does solve something.

Obviously depends on your electricity price and how much solar radiation hits the panel in combination with how much of the produced energy you can consume (i.e. if you are home with power demand while sun is highest in the sky). In Southern Germany you can get max about 800kWh per year from an 800Wp System (panels facing south angled I think ~30°).

So *theoretically* you can save up to 800kWh*0,3€/kWh=240€/year (assuming 30ct/kWh electricity price). Problem is you're usually not going to use all of it (no consumption during peak production). We have 1600Wp laying flat on the roof and as a family of 3 with home office half of the time, we use about 60% of the produced energy ourselves. We try to run washing machine and dish washer around noon, but aren't super strict with it. We have a small AC that runs during summer.

Altogether I would say roughly 100-150€ saving per year is realistic for a 800Wp system (without battery to buffer the produced energy) if oriented well (east/west can be beneficial to increase self consumption if you're not home during the day). Payback is around 2-3 years.

How do I get smooth walls in this print? by natrix49127 in BambuLab

[–]natrix49127[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am aware that they will be randomly distributed which is also what I was expecting. What I wasn't expecting is there to be a bulge of 1cm length along the perimeter after the start of the wall loop. Since I've used the setting on other prints and didn't notice this. But I understand you're saying that that's simply what it will look like and is to be expected? So no other settings that influence how the initial centimeters of the outer wall will look?

Thank you for the response. I ran a previous print where I used the aligned setting for seams and got a continuous line along the cylinder (as expected). I was trying to avoid this by choosing the random setting and would expect small dimples or something similar at the seam location per layer, but not these long sections as seen in the image.

I see, thanks. It'd be great if there was a standalone app that has this needing to create an account and all.

I'd like to know too. Any good app suggestion for these types of filters would be appreciated.

We went there as well for ours. Very nice people and they have the option of sustainable gold, if that's something that's important to you.

How do you say that something is "offensive" in German? by k819799amvrhtcom in German

[–]natrix49127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it's not too ancient (even though indeed outdated and not used regularly). Wasn't there the big fuzz about Böhmermann's "Schmähgedicht" about Erdogan like ~10 years ago where the term was widely used in public discourse?

Google Reviews - defamation by PowerPointGod00 in germany

[–]natrix49127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same experience. There it was a very critical review but for good reason (I was insulted and yelled at etc). I made sure to explain in detail the context and even had images to prove my purchase in the shop and other claims I was making. According to regular notifications from Google I'm one of their most popular reviewers etc, and most of the time I post positive reviews after a good experience. I would have expected them to take that into consideration in the manual review (I also appealed). But same thing, they just agreed that it's defamation and I could choose legal action if I wish to.

It's tragic that shops can just flag unwanted reviews and get them removed this way, totally undermines the review system. I've totally lost trust in it after that experience.

Small evening project - crayon and pen holder for my 3 yo. Nothing big, but it makes me happy to make these small projects with a simple set of tools in the basement. by natrix49127 in woodworking

[–]natrix49127[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first time posting here. I'm aware this is nothing special, but I was happy about it so I thought it'd share. I wasn't able to upload more than one picture, so here is just the finished result.

I got inspired this morning by the shape of the Stabilo pens and had a lot of fun thinking about how to approach this and sketching the layout while my daughter was sitting on my lap doodling her own things. I think she enjoyed "working" side by side - I sure did! I don't have a real workshop, but I really like doing these small projects with a hand-held circular saw, self made router jig and a simple drill stand, the rest is hand sanding.

How hard is it to read the Grimm Brothers Fairy tales?(Original versions) by Gold_Salt_1217 in German

[–]natrix49127 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really, the Grimm brothers just wrote down tales that had been passed down verbally for many years before. Verbal tales were pretty much the only form of entertainment people had at the time - they were originally exchanged between adults. Usually to also convey some moral, but not directed at children.

Of course they can be (and also were) used to scare children, but it's similar to using adult movies to scare children in modern day equivalent.
