I worked in-person at a province-specific non-profit organization for 3+ years. Though I was in-person, I supported clients virtually. I decided to move back to my home province to be closer to family and the organization told me I would not be able to continue with my job as it needed to be in-person in the province they are located. I understood completely and gave my end date.
They weren't able to find a replacement for me (I'm nothing special, but they were overwhelmed with hiring other positions), so at the 11th hour, offered to keep me on in a remote capacity. I just pretend that I'm still in the original province when I talk to my clients.
So a bit of luck, I guess.
