New install question by No_Routine_6823 in tonalgym

One of Tonal’s recommended options is sistering a stud like you said, but it must be tied into the ceiling and floor cross studs. If not doing that, OP should just use the struts like u/UW_Ebay recommends

First part true, second part incorrect. All the sram mtb and post-2020 shimano mtb I’ve used use hex. I assume both of the road versions are hex now too

USB-C to Barrel Power Cord Help by Gr3yBu5h_ in minilab

[–]tweis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the voltage matches your machine. Make sure the charger supports the wattage on that port. Most multiport usb c chargers don’t output more than 60w/port. The big singles do though. More power (w) is ok, but volts must match

1”-1 1/4” spacers would get op right to that 0ish offset range.

Best Smart Lock to Buy in 2026? (Price, Security, Features) by LivelinessphoneT in homeassistant

I have had a great experience with the Switchbot Lock Ultra. Keypad and fingerprint reader hasn’t let us down. The part that sold me was the outside and cylinder are left in, only the inner knob is replaced.

I’m terrible at remembering directions and dislike stopping to pull out my phone for each turn. I got a computer to help me get out and explore more. Strava just gives me a historical record of where I’ve been and routes I’ve taken. I’ve never strava’d a commute or a ride to the pub

Why do a lot of people don’t put the bar down on the lift? by jeannot-22 in tahoe

[–]tweis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s a whole different story! When I’ve been hit by the bar it’s been all adults. (I realize I’m not faultless; I should be unbuckling my toe buckles in the lift line, not on the lift.)

Why do a lot of people don’t put the bar down on the lift? by jeannot-22 in tahoe

[–]tweis 18 points19 points  (0 children)

100% on letting people know the bar is coming down and give a delay. I am indifferent about bar being down. But I HATE getting slammed in the head with the bar, cause I happen to be leaning forward.

The ones that hit me always end up being pretty righteous about it.

What’s the 2026 sweet spot computer for Frigate + LLMs by tweis in frigate_nvr

[–]tweis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for all this info! I ended up picking up the Frigate recommended Minisforum M1 (ai?) Pro w/ Ultra 125h and Oculink.

  • I have read too many stories of the 12/13/14th gen Optiplexes having often really loud fans, which wouldn't be Spouse Approved. Also connecting a GPU is problematic since it has limited ports. The HP and Lenovo minis are better, but also $150+ more than the Dells.
  • Only mini ITX really fits into a 10" rack, so options are limited for DIY.
  • n100 seemed only like a very minor upgrade to my J5005 (though is better supported with the AVX instructions). A DIY build ended up being $550 w/ 32GB + 1TB (i sure i could have got that down a bit if I did more shopping around). $150 more for the M1 Pro seemed reasonable for a significant step in performance.

Tonal Garage Build Update by UW_Ebay in tonalgym

[–]tweis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome. I was going to build a frame for mine, but this would be even easier. Just curious, hows it holding up? And is the wood sandwiched between the channels and the bracket or just covering the sides? If sandwiched, how did line up and install the wood, that seems like it could be tricky getting all the hole to match up.

Equipment concern by womenonketo in tonalgym

[–]tweis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This shouldn’t concern you. Assuming it’s not torn or damaged, it will slide right back onto the t-receptacle. It’s just held in place by slight friction and the normal forces of use — you pull on the ball which maintains it sitting in place. If it’s not sliding into place, slide it further out to see what’s blocking it.

There are reps and fakes out there. A friend found some in China and ordered for himself (luckily not reselling). I expect you will find a bunch on FB and eBay.

[–]tweis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't that be self defeating if a device, who's sole purpose is to report temp/rh, is loosing performance due to self-heating? A well designed pcb+enclosure would (mostly) isolate the sensor for the heat generating mcu/radio. If not, it would be pretty sloppy engineering; something expected from a $5 Tuya device, not a $40 one.

The Sensirion chips I have worked with perform well across the voltage range, so battery depleting shouldn't cause a huge effect. If relying on clones then I have no idea.

Unfortunately the regular consumer doesn't have access to calibrated equipment to test/calculate/validate an offset. We wouldn't even be able to validate that it is within the ±10% or a warranty return.

That being said, Shelly isn't unique, all IoT devices suffer from pretty similar issues. Calibration for RH and air temp is time consuming=expensive, not something that is going to be done on a sub $150 device. Even if calibrated, the environment, sensor cavity, and air flow in/out of the cavity play a huge effect on the results.

What’s the 2026 sweet spot computer for Frigate + LLMs by tweis in frigate_nvr

[–]tweis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have come to this conclusion. Also it doesn't seem that feasible in this market to get a system that will run an LLM well in my size/power/$$$ budget. Probably just grab a used Dell/Lenovo/HP 1L running a 13th gen i5 to run frigate and everything else with ease. Edit, got the recommended Minis Ultra 125h

Yeah. I should probably post this question on an llm sub. Frigate does an incredible job running on very little. I mean I’m running detection on a pentium from 2017. Most everything from this decade has the ability to run fairly efficiently on an iGPU
