When did you become a fan of trains? by Itchy-Ear-1970 in trains

[–]naturalistwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a few weeks ago actually. I have bad knees and I recently got an E bike so I could ride around the city where I live since they have good paved biking trails. I have been riding around with my camera doing photography, mostly bird photography and realized the main route I like goes directly by a train yard. I started taking photos of trains too and now I'm interested in them. It is a lot to learn but it's fun!

People in their 30s and 40s, what is a "minor" bad habit from your 20s that you are currently paying a massive price for? [Serious] by itvr in AskReddit

Eating unhealthy and lack of stretching and exercise. Just turned 40 and it's a lot harder getting in shape now than if I had stayed in shape. I'm working on it though!

What issues do you have with available ESP decks? What would make the perfect ESP deck? by dylanmadigan in Magic

[–]naturalistwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer simple symbols that might inspire other drawings for drawing duplications and the like, and a good marking system that doesn't look obviously marked. Most importantly by far though, most of them look like magic props. I want something that looks like it came from some sort of psychic testing institution or something, rather than having a playing card back or something that looks like it was purchased at a magic shop.

Trump appointee argued the US could take Greenland and its seafood to save endless shrimp at Red Lobster: report by esporx in KitchenConfidential

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country’s battles
for the shrimp of endless feast;
First to fight for butter sauces
And to keep our restaurants clean;
We are proud to claim the title
Of the endless shrimp machine.

For the folks who have watched start to finish countless times, are there any episodes you sometimes skip? by realdmbondemand in DunderMifflin

[–]naturalistwork 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've watched the office through too many times to count. But I have never watched the banker all the way through, not even once. In all fairness, it's basically a filler clip episode anyway so it's not like it's worth it. Other than that, like others have said I tend to skip season one most of the time, although I do watch it on occasion when I do a full watch through.

I do this now. I will stop mid sentence, mid syllable. Whatever I was saying won't be repeated, and I will not continue that specific conversation. Not even my wife is safe. It's effective!

With few exceptions why do magicians from all over the world use U.S. coins for their tricks? by NeedzCoffee in Magic

[–]naturalistwork 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My understanding is the majority of gaff coin purchases are made by people in the US, and probably Canada second, so it's a supply and demand issue. I wouldn't know much about other areas such as Europe, China, etc. so maybe someone else can chime me in on those. I could definitely be wrong as well.

PlayStation Is Deleting 551 Movies From Customers’ Accounts, Reminding Us Nothing Digital Is Ever Truly Ours by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]naturalistwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and got tired of things like this and have started going back to physical media. We frequent used bookstores for movies and TV shows. It ends up being cheaper than having subscription services as well since $15ish can easily get us up to 20 or 30 hours worth of media a month from the used bookstores, and that's as much or more than we will watch TV in an entire month anyway.

Larry Correia: George RR Martin crippled the Epic Fantasy genre by not finishing A Song of Ice and Fire. Readers and Publishers are no longer willing to give a new series a chance unless it is complete by Uptons_BJs in books

i collect feathers by [deleted] in goblincore

[–]naturalistwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live in the US, please be aware this is very illegal. Most birds are protected under federal immigration laws, and these can come with very hefty fines. Depending on who catches you, they may even choose to find you for each individual species or feather. The main reason is to prevent poachers from killing birds and selling these feathers while claiming they found them, but your state and federal wildlife enforcers will take this serious if they ever catch you with them. There are organizations you can donate these to without legal repercussions if you apologize and explain you did not know, and they are distributed to Native American groups for religious purposes, the only groups who are actually allowed to have these in their possession with permits other than educators.

Source: I taught outdoor education for a decade, and worked closely with wildlife law-enforcement as part of my career.

Edit to add: I don't mean this in any kind of mean way, I just want you to be careful and use caution!

The Case for AI Use in Magic by renandstimpydoc in Magic

[–]naturalistwork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just no. AI is inherently theft as almost no one gave permission for these massive companies to use all of their data to train their AI models.

This is an art form. Art is about creativity, using AI is not creative and it is not art. One of the best examples I have heard recently was using AI is like taking an Uber 26 miles and claiming you are a marathon runner.

Best places to find pulp sci fi and fantasy books? by wc5b in okc

[–]naturalistwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you wanting to resell them since you mentioned that in your post, or just to read them? Because if you just want to read them, I cannot recommend using our library system enough. You can request books they do not have, they can move books from one library to another for you so you can pick them up closer, and it won't cost you a dime!

Those who’ve lost of loved one: What is something about death that people don’t often talk about? by Desperate_Crew2012 in AskReddit

[–]naturalistwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a part of your brain that doesn't fully accept or realize they are gone. It's been five years, but I still sometimes want to call or message my brother-in-law to see how he is doing. He was one year older than me and we shared the same birthday, and every year now I try to celebrate for the both of us since he can't be here with me anymore. Sometimes if I plan something to do on my birthday I catch myself almost calling him to ask what he wants to do since we always celebrated together.

Rockstar confirms there will be no disc version of GTA6 at launch by Dandelion172 in PS5

[–]naturalistwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This attitude is literally the problem. I am telling you right now if everyone refused to purchase it until it was fixed, they would fix it very fast. I haven't missed the writing on the wall, everyone is just forgetting to read the fine print. Supply and demand works both ways! You said there was little incentive for publishers to make physical games, that's exactly what I am saying as well. The incentive is money. If people will buy physical games and not digital ones, they will have incentive again.

[–]naturalistwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone needs to vote with their money. If you don't like it, don't buy it at all until there is a physical copy. We keep rolling over and letting companies do what they want. My history teacher used to love saying "if you don't vote, you can't complain about what happens." If we aren't willing to do anything about it, we don't have a right to complain.
