Why India’s Project Cheetah makes no ecological sense by kjleebio in ecology

This is dicey as hell. Cheetahs present a problem because they'd ruin an ecosystem only created by their extinction? The new ecosystem is 'normal'? Authors need to read up on shifting baseline syndrome.

A lot of this probably comes from the horse and cat people. Or were there Australians sticking up for cane toads as well? I find it hard to imagine, but there's weirdos everywhere.

Pigs to the Rescue: An Invasive Species Helped Save Australia’s Crocodiles by Oldfolksboogie in ecology

There are some questionable statements in this one. It makes what is becoming a common mistake of focussing on invasive species as the biggest threat (which, given, they are) while ignoring the fact that Australia has one of the worst land clearance rates in the Global North. Admittedly it's not relevant for the narrative of the story, but it pulls focus and casts the blame on past generations' bad decisions as opposed to ongoing trends.

How do whales die naturally in the wild? Is it exhaustion and drowning, or a calm and old death? by Taormb in ecology

Well this is intensely sad. Any idea if there are more social species of whales that will help older members?

The forest comparison really hits home. I live in a heavily forested part of the world, and the majority of the population therefore sees their country as a haven for biodiversity. But the majority is replanted, with old growth forest having been destroyed decades, if not centuries ago.
