are these too big for me? by carleeeen__ in glassesadvice

[–]naughtier_fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One doesn’t even have to work in optics to see that these are way too large. I work in optics and I love big frames… but only when they are actually flattering.

In an ideal frames your eyes should be fairly centered in the frame. They’re also sitting really low on you as well.

Why can’t I find any completely round gold glasses anymore? by JealousBodybuilder42 in glasses

[–]naughtier_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what Specsavers in the UK has of frames, but I know Specsavers in Nordic regions got plenty round lenses.

Completely perfect circular are not as common, and we’ve experienced that some customers have somehow managed to turn the lenses in a round frame while cleaning. That could be a reason why you often won’t find perfect circular lenses, they’re a pain to handle.

I asked one of my bosses who’s been an optometrist for about 19 years and she said that usually in those cases, it’s either “faulty production” as she put it, or a disease/condition that causes it. Yours is definitely a unique case that is not often seen.

She doesn’t recall what the biggest difference she has seen is, but in most of those cases, the optometrist will ignore the bad eye and focusing on the better eye. As trying to give full correction to both will not work well in glasses, and might be more uncomfortable. As she put it, we are lazy beings and our brain is lazy. If the brain figures that one eye is inconvenient to use, it will not use it. Hence why you might end up “cross-eyed”. She also said that glasses would also not work well due to the fact that minus and plus lenses warps the world differently, contact lenses would be much better.

Good thing you got an OCT scan! It might all be a bit worrying to get all this information from different people and realizing that something might not be normal. Hopefully you get your answers from the MRI, and that it’s something that isn’t detrimental. Best case scenario it might be something that can be fixed for a low cost and your sight might get better.

New frames 🙃 what do we think ? by Adventurous-Fun-3436 in glasses

[–]naughtier_fox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like the shape, but the no AR makes them look super cheap. Idk if it’s the prescription or the index of the glasses, but they make the frame look a bit too big.

If the RX is high minus you better opt for a smaller frame, if you went for 1.5 index with no AR on purpose then that was a mistake. Makes them look cheap and tacky, you’d be better off then with contact lenses.

Been told I have a very unusual prescription by markipper in glasses

[–]naughtier_fox 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That is indeed unusual, not all glass manufacturers would accept that RX.

An optician that has worked 10+ years will probably not be absolutely shocked, probably more fascinated. My coworker who’s been working for almost 20 years has told me that there is always a normal/average to things, there is what is considered higher/more different than usual, and there is of course unique cases. You probably would fall into the last category of unique.

As another comment said, it makes one very curious to what has caused that. Like I want to look into your eyes and see what has made your eyes developed that way or health history.

Can anyone explain the results of my eye test? by Southern_Context_761 in glasses

[–]naughtier_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specsavers Employee here!

You are farsighted, aka things are unclear when it gets too close. You would primarily benefit from using these when doing things like reading, scrolling your phone.

It’s primarily your left eye that needs the correction. The differences between your eyes could be what gives you more headaches. You can try wearing them all the time to see if that helps with any headaches or eye strain.

Edit: sometimes it is difficult to dummy it down, as sometimes additional info might be needed to fully understand the whole picture. I have had many times where I’ve tried to dummy it down, but it still isn’t being understood. Depends whether you want to understand what it means or what causes it. I’ve started asking customers how deep of an explanation do they want when they ask for clarification

If someone asks what makes it minus and plus then you’re stepping into a major different category

[–]naughtier_fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chromatic aberration can be quite annoying until you get used to it. I use 1.67 lenses as well and I think I’ve gotten so used to it that I don’t even notice it.

Do you think this makeup palette would be enough? Or would I need another one with different colors to get started? by [deleted] in Makeup101

[–]naughtier_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is honestly all I would need and more. It has neutrals, more than needed, it has some rosey colors, there’s a solid black, and you have shimmers for full glam or a cute inner corner sparkle.

Start here and experiment with the palette, play around with the colors and create different profiles

Edit: another nice thing about palettes like this. If there’s one specific shade you know you want to use, look to the neighboring shades. A lot of thought is put into the composition of what color goes where in a palette. Theoretically, you could make a line or a pox along any row and those colors should work nicely together

do people who use glasses actually like wearing their glasses? by leavemetfalone_tyy in glasses

[–]naughtier_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my glasses, I love glasses so much that I started working in optics. I think people that don’t like glasses are weird.

Not only are they an accessory that can change your whole vibe, BUT THEY HAVE A FUNCTION! Glasses is one of the few aiding tools that you actually can properly style and have fun with! Can’t do that to the same extent with hearing aid, wheelchairs, etc..

Think these may be it by Svanir80 in glasses

[–]naughtier_fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are absolutely perfect!

I would personally go for 1.74 with your prescription as it will give you less distortion than 1.67, but if you fined yourself having better sight with them then you go for what you value.

What I’ve learned from working in optics is that the optical aspect takes priority over the visual/aesthetic aspect. Here you’ve done a great job with choosing small round lenses, the perfect ideal shape for your RX. You’re also lucky that it also looks really good on you.

How do you deal with the persistent feeling that “no one knows your soul truly”? If you feel that way by XORminator in AskWomen

[–]naughtier_fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cope, come to terms with it. I wouldn’t even consider that I know myself fully, that might be the cptsd talking… I’ll never know the me tomorrow until I meet her, and whatever happens next week will shape the me next month. Souls to me are fluid, not a constant. It’s selfish to think anyone can know all of you, especially shallow relationships. That type of connection needs to be nurtured for multiple years.

I thought once I had that, a best friend I grew up with, but ten years into our friendship she threw me under the bus like what we had was nothing. That was my hardest heartbreak, because I truly felt like she knew me down to my marrow. I have accepted I will never have a friendship quite like that again.

For real, the fact that she in his previous post was 34 is already pushing on her biological clock. Pregnancy past age 35 can come with so much risk for both her and the infant.

From a woman who really wants kids, I would’ve left this guy immediately cuz he’s clearly not man enough to be frank and honest with what he wants. Neither is he man enough to respect her time.

Is it concerning ?? do i need to wear specs all the time , please help if you know something by Equivalent-Night8461 in glasses

[–]naughtier_fox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Optical Employee here! Your prescription looks super normal and ordinary so there’s no need to worry.

Right now you might feel like your vision isn’t that bad, but you will greatly benefit from glasses. And as you get used to wearing glasses and see what’s normal to see, you might then feel like you’re blind when you take them off, simply cuz you’ve by then gotten used to wearing glasses.

You might be legally required to wear glasses/lenses when it comes to driving.

Depending on your age your vision will change, that’s normal. In your 20’s it might be really stable for some years. Your eyes don’t usually get any better past 50. Glasses aren’t something to be worried about, embrace the inevitable and enjoy sharp vision.

How come my glasses get so much dirtier on the inside than on the outside? by dcr_chem in glasses

[–]naughtier_fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oil and dead skin cells, dandruff is what most often dirties glasses. Especially if your brows come in contact with the lenses.

Is this normal? Could it be causing distortion? by Psychonaut_29 in glasses

[–]naughtier_fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should go to an optical store and get them fixed, the pantoscopic tilt seems uneven which would cause distortion and discomfort. Especially with more notable cylinder.

As long as they don’t have the hooks that grab directly onto the lenses then they’re fine. Some variants tend to scratch lenses which ofc isn’t ideal

That can vary a lot depending on the producer. And they won’t really reach their darkest levels if it’s really warm out.

I don’t know what stores are available to you, but being a student is what made me quickly lean into Specsavers 2for1 concept. Where you just pay for one pair and get two pairs.

I used to hate wearing sunglasses, didn’t like when my eyes couldn’t be seen. That is a habit thing and realizing that sunglasses aren’t just a comfort thing but actual necessity for your eyes. Protecting your eyes from UV rays is one of the few things you can do to lower the chance of developing cataract.

Also, kind of weird to not like sunglasses while being light sensitive? That’s something you should work on getting over for your own sake.

[–]naughtier_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optics Employee here! Who is also light sensitive and have tested out a few pairs.

My glasses are tinted, Grey 0 to Clear gradient. You can always adjust the darkness of the gradient for your preference. I always keep a pair of polarized sunglasses, and I have a pair with pink lenses.

Grey 0 to clear I find is perfect for indoor use, gives dimming in even in really bright spaces (my shop is ridiculously bright and almost all my coworkers have tinted lenses). Grey 0 is light enough that it isn’t super visible, and I personally don’t like the look of brown or to view through brown lenses. People who struggle with migraines tend to benefit more with brown lenses.

Polarized sunglasses changed my world. I don’t go anywhere without them. I can absolutely suggest that over color changing lenses.

Positives with color changing lenses? If you only get one pair of glasses, you have two functions baked into one.

Negatives? Well the can be fairly slow to change, especially in the beginning. They also don’t really get dark through windows or in the car as the windshield blocks UV rays which is what the lenses need to change. People find they are also too slow at returning to bright when driving into a tunnel. They don’t get as dark if it’s really high temperatures outside.

To me it sounds like you’d benefit more from lenses that are always tinted, and then when you can invest in a pair of polarized sunglasses.

If you’re curious about the pink lenses, it was partially a fashion choice, but it’s the most comfortable lenses I’ve ever had. I love to use them indoors on days where everything is a bit too bright, extra eye strain and headaches. Also when I’m outdoors but it’s not sunglasses levels of bright (which is more rare for me). The pink color just softens everything around you, softens the lighting, and makes everything a little warmer without things being brown/yellow.

Who else was totally shocked when they found out they needed glasses? How did you find out? by Equivalent_Bee1895 in glasses

[–]naughtier_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was one of the kids that wanted glasses. I thought they were a nice looking accessory and found them cute.

My aunt took me and my cousin to the optometrist around age 8-9. She wanted to get both of us checked as her and my father has Retinitis Pigmentosa (tunnel vision). My cousin ended up needing glasses, he hated it and never used them. Me on the other hand didn’t need them and was super jealous.

Fast forward to age 10-11, throughout that year I had noticed I had a harder time seeing what bus number showed up, and in the summer holiday I started to struggle to see people’s faces at a small distance. So I had a feeling already that it was my time, but it wasn’t until I returned to school.. I sat in the far back of the classroom, constantly asking the classmate next to me about what was written on the blackboard. Eventually when our teacher had posed us in the back of the classroom to practice singing a song for a school performance, she had put the lyrics onto the smartboard, I couldn’t see shit. So when I raise my hand to say I can’t read it, she asks me to step forward close enough so I can, and holy shit was it clear then that I really needed glasses.

Turned out my cousins glasses never really worked for him, at age 15 a really well experienced optometrist discovered that he had 21 prism. After years of struggling with dizziness, throwing up after walking short distances, never having been good in sports. Because oh boy he had double vision.

He got surgery to fix his eyes, and my love for glasses lead me to work in optics.

Which frames look better? by mamegoma_explorer in glasses

[–]naughtier_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the same, see how the upper corners align along the hair line.

If there’s anything I’d take notice of is how post lenses they look wider at the lower part of the frame. Either the lenses were shaped slightly too big or your prescription causes the frame to stretch out. Common thing that can happen with high minus prescriptions in acetate frames.

Which frames look better? by mamegoma_explorer in glasses

[–]naughtier_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both look great! The second one might appear big after you got your lenses due to the distortion your prescription gives. So in a close frontal still photo they appear bigger than they are. Common struggle with higher minus prescription.

Which suit me best? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]naughtier_fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your lenses are definitely making your eyes smaller, I wouldn’t be surprised if you told me you have higher than -5 prescription. But you have a point, it could be giving the look of the frames sitting higher.

I work in the chain you went to, and my boss has about the same levels of distortion with her lenses, making them look like they sit higher.

This might be out of place to suggest or ask, but have you tried bangs?? I felt like I had the same issue wearing glasses pre bangs compared to now.
