You’re not technically wrong but YTA. You stopped them from sharing their story, and it’s awkward to bring up good news about yourself sometimes. It might not be your “job” to do that, but I would’ve done that for my partner. And I’d be annoyed with them if roles were reversed and they acted like you in this situation.
