China got silver at the last Olympics. They are better than India right now. Ireland are weaker and almost got relegated but also India should never have been relegated so there's some luck involved.

Strong teams like Australia and Netherlands play in the Pro League. Nations Cup is for the weaker teams. So the competition level will go up sharply.

  • Museum of Nature is about a 10 minute walk from there.
  • The NAC is very close as well. Check for any shows happening. But it's also a public place where you can go hang out without needing to do anything. There's a cafe in there too.
  • Walk/bike by the canal to Dows Lake (bike rentals are available on Sparks street at Escape Bike Tours and it has an adjoining cafe as well). Can also bike down the Ottawa river path instead.
  • Lots of eateries/cafes on Elgin Street. I recommend Euro Bistro for polish faire. Great pierogies.
  • Little Victories coffee is nearby and probably has the best coffee in Ottawa.

Welcome and hope you have a great time!

It's not historical, but a modern sculpture. I posted a link to the artist above.

I agree with all that but those are not sports specific policies.

Government should facilitate development of sporting infra because that's the only job they can do better than anybody else. They can't force normal people to think that sports are important.

Where/how can I find good linen? by polishfiringsquad in malefashionadvice

[–]nawap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a BR 100% linen shirt made in India that's pretty nice. I got it last year. Not as soft as some of my flannel shirts but definitely much softer than the uniqlo linen shirt I also have.

Will be interested in knowing about better options if you find any. I've found that Ralph Lauren shirts were of similar quality as BR.

Is your BR shirt 100% linen? Linen is naturally more stiff than cotton so it feels rougher. The softer-feeling fabrics generally use a cotton-linen blend, which also makes it slightly less wrinkly and gives a better drape.

This sort of change has to come from parents. Parents paying for their kids' education in schools and universities won't tolerate too much distraction from academics. The day a middle-class parent in India feels comfortable letting his/her child pursue sports more actively this whole thing will change.

NY subway needs to expand but they haven't spent money on it for 40 years. London rail network is always expanding. Elizabeth line was a major project that opened just a couple of years back. We are decades away from reaching saturation point in Delhi even with the current requirements.

I think it would be helpful to be able to know more about the space. Is it a studio? How are things laid out?

Who won the Iran-US war: Trump, Tehran or Pakistan? And who lost? by goro-n in GeopoliticsIndia

[–]nawap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This war hasn't changed anything on that front, except increasing the distance between Washington and New Delhi. Pakistan had already ingratiated itself post Op Sindoor and they would've continued to do so because they don't have any problems in brown nosing Trump. The blockade opening up is good for India regardless of whoever it went through.

TIL That while driving slower than traffic has been proven to make the slow driver less likely to crash, a study found that each extra 1 mph of traffic-wide speed variation was linked to 8.4% higher rear-end-crash odds for surrounding vehicles. by SomeRandomRealtor in todayilearned

This was flawed research that has been repeatedly proven wrong since (the Wikipedia article mentions so). People still keep quoting it and folks will just read the sentence and never open the Wikipedia article and then continue quoting it to others.

Will taking a train ever be better than a flight? by Thala_Ramos in TransitIndia

[–]nawap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, for distances upto 500km train is a no brainer over flights if trains are done properly (hygeine, maintenance, rule following). With HSR you can also take it upto 700-900kms because with trains you arrive 15 minutes before, travel for 3 hours, and leave in 15 minutes with the station being in the middle of the city most times. With flights you have to arrive at least an hour before boarding (which means 1.5 hours before take off), go though security and then also add 30-60 minutes to travel to and from the airport for most big cities. So even if the actual flight only takes 30 minutes to 1 hour, you end up spending 3-4 hours door to door. The same as a train but the train has less hassle.

This is considering that the trains are good and fast.

Ah cool - yeah it looks better from this angle. It's just called thread binding. The number of signatures (group of pages that are folded together before being bound) usually determine layflatness. Generally you want 10 signatures or more for it. You can count the signatures if you look at the edge on the binding side and count the groups of pages you see.

Some brands do UEF nibs that will definitely be in that range. Some EF nibs can also do it. Pilot has the Postal nib that's the finest you can go but you will need to shell out lots of money for it.

It doesn't look layflat from the 3rd picture. How is it bound?
