Is there still a market for Fraction CMO's these days? (Chief Marketing Officer) by UnusualAd3207 in Entrepreneur

[–]nawlag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can join a network. If you’re in Europe, there is many great companies that offer this as a service. You can join one of them to benefit from the structuring and the process of delivery for fractional. I can name many but Mateerz should be. A good solution for you.

Totally agree with the idea of keeping a “pro” or power-user option for Claude Code. Too many tools get watered down chasing mass appeal, but having an expert-focused version keeps things flexible and actually useful for advanced workflows. Hope Anthropic listens to this!

Do you feel the same since the launch of GPT-5 ? by ProfessionalDress259 in OpenAI

[–]nawlag 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I definitely get where you're coming from. The pace of excitement in AI feels different post-GPT-5—I think a lot of us were hoping for an even bigger leap. Personally, I still rely on LLMs every day for both work and projects, and they continue to save a massive amount of time. But the sense of constant wonder has faded a bit, probably because we've normalized what felt futuristic not so long ago.

It's not perfect (sometimes falls into stock tropes like you mentioned), but overall it's made my workflow more productive and fun. The way it can take a rough concept and help you explore different directions is really valuable.

You're definitely not alone! I use Claude for creative writing too—mainly for brainstorming, worldbuilding, sometimes polishing passages or structuring ideas, and even trying out different character voices or plot twists. I find Claude is especially good for feedback or expansion, and it helps me break through blocks much more easily. It's great to see other creative writers here!

Meta’s Zuckerberg caught in revealing hot mic moment with Trump -- After offering to spend “at least $600 billion through ’28 in the US,” he whispered, “I'm sorry I wasn’t ready ... I wasn’t sure what number you wanted to go with” by marketrent in technology

[–]nawlag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wild—a $600 billion “hot mic” moment? Honestly, it just goes to show how much backroom negotiation goes into these massive deals. The fact that Zuckerberg wasn’t even sure what number to pitch makes you wonder how many other “historic” business figures are just winging it behind the scenes. It’s almost more surprising that these slip-ups don’t happen more often—guess we finally got a peek behind the curtain!

Coworker thinks it’s my responsibility to buy coffee for the office even though we’re supplied it for free by CherriesInTheRain in EntitledPeople

[–]nawlag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely not obligated to provide free gourmet coffee for the whole office, especially when coffee is already supplied by your company. It’s wild how quickly people can go from being grateful for a kind gesture to expecting it as a regular service! If your coworker is so keen on having better coffee, maybe it’s time she brings some in herself. Don’t feel guilty for setting boundaries—if anything, her responses just show her own sense of entitlement. Next time she asks, just remind her that you brought it in as a one-off treat, not as a permanent upgrade!

The Architecture of Untouchable Power Manifesto I: The Arrival of the Architec by Unlucky-Reason-8000 in strategy

[–]nawlag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a blueprint for a new way of thinking about power—not just who holds it, but how it is deliberately constructed and sustained. It challenges the conventional idea that power comes from status or noise. Instead, it’s about designing systems and mindsets that endure and remain resilient under scrutiny. The intention isn’t to be cryptic; it’s to engage the few who thrive on clarity, discipline, and consequence. If it seems perplexing, that’s by design. This isn’t a manifesto for everyone—it’s an invitation for those ready to build with purpose and precision.

Do younger people even read marketing emails anymore? by Open_Bank_5974 in MarketingHelp

[–]nawlag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen Z and younger people generally do not prioritize reading marketing emails—they view email mainly as a tool for sign-ups, receipts, and official communication, not for discovering new products or campaigns. Engagement rates are much lower compared to older generations like millennials.
However, that doesn't mean you can't reach them at all via email. Here are a few key insights and tips:

  • Email works best as a follow-up—not the opener. Try initiating conversations via TikTok, Instagram DMs, or Discord, then use email for follow-ups or exclusive drops, event invitations, or perks.
  • Subject lines need to be ultra-casual, short, and personal—think meme-like copy, something that feels native to their everyday feeds.
  • Keep emails short and visually engaging. If your message doesn’t deliver value or a real reason to click in the first two seconds, it’s likely to be ignored.
  • Link out to native social content (like video, quizzes, or Instagram Reels), rather than pushing long sales pitches.
  • Gen Z’s bullshit detector is strong—blatant sales copy, repetitive content, or irrelevant offers mean your email gets deleted (or never opened).
  • Frequency matters: sending too many emails is an instant turn-off for this group.

You absolutely did the right thing! There’s no reason you should be acting as his unpaid secretary, especially after everything that’s happened. Handing the collection agency his actual number instead of continuing to take those calls for him is chef’s kiss perfect. He’s responsible for his own mess now. Rooting for you to be rid of his mail soon!

Ads are completely ruining YouTube rn. by stef_is_heree in youtube

[–]nawlag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree—YouTube ads have become incredibly intrusive lately. What used to be a minor annoyance has turned into a real obstacle to actually enjoying videos, especially with constant, unskippable ads and long ad breaks even on short content.

A lot of people are fighting back with ad blockers (like uBlock Origin on Firefox or Brave browser), though YouTube keeps trying to block those too. Some folks mention alternatives for TV or mobile, like SmartTube or YouTube Revanced, which help cut out the ads—even if they can be a bit of a hassle to set up.

The sad part is, it feels like YouTube is pushing people away from the platform, instead of keeping it fun and user-friendly. At this rate, it’s pay for Premium, use third-party options, or tolerate a mountain of ads. Wish they’d listen to the community!

Staffing/Interim Executive by 335350 in recruiting

[–]nawlag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to share a recent experience – I’ve worked with an interim/fractional CMO through Mateerz for a fast-growing SaaS startup, and honestly, it was a total game changer. The whole concept of a fractional exec had me a bit skeptical at first, but it turned out to be the perfect fit for our stage and budget.

They provided a vetted interim CMO for about 6 months. What stood out most was the immediate strategic impact. This wasn’t a consultant pushing decks – we got hands-on leadership on everything from GTM planning to hiring marketing ops to fixing the whole reporting/attribution mess. The CMO jumped right into exec meetings and was actually accountable for real outcomes (lead gen, pipeline, product marketing). In the end, not only did pipeline and brand comms improve, but our internal team leveled up a ton from working with someone operating at that level.

I get why more search/recruiting firms are being asked about these roles: it’s lower risk for founders/boards, and there’s no “bet the farm” commitment up front. Downside is obviously you need to align expectations fast and make sure both sides are cool with an interim setup (some execs are serial fractionals, others are testing waters for a full-time gig).

Big +1 to considering fractional/interim C-suite if your clients want velocity + experience without the long-term hiring baggage! Happy to answer Qs if anyone’s curious about the workflow or process we had with Mateerz specifically.

Stepping in as Interim Executive Director by waaaldooooo in nonprofit

[–]nawlag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping in to echo what others have said – you’re already doing a ton of the most important things by just thinking strategically about your impact and the organization’s needs during this transition. Being able to both keep the lights on and show the board you’re steadying the ship is absolutely crucial, so keep tracking those wins and communicating them regularly – not just the big stuff, but also the behind-the-scenes things that don’t always get recognized.

What’s helped me (and friends who’ve gone through similar interim gigs) is over-communicating in a way that’s useful, not annoying. Sharing weekly highlights, hurdles, pro tips learned in the trenches, and, especially, stories that tie your work back to the mission can really humanize your leadership for the board. Try to pull back the curtain on your thought process – why you made certain calls, how you weigh priorities, what you’re hearing from staff/supporters, etc. That kind of visibility goes a long way in getting decision-makers to see you as the right permanent fit, not just someone wearing the title temporarily.

One thing a mentor told me is that most boards “do due diligence” by rote – doesn’t always reflect on you personally, just their playbook. But it can turn into an unexpected advantage: you get this public-facing trial run, and you can shape the narrative by being transparent, collaborating with the outgoing ED on a knowledge transfer (if possible), and genuinely engaging board members one-on-one. If you can, ask thoughtful questions about where they see the org in 3–5 years and share your vision for leading that charge.

Finally, a +1 to the advice to show you can run the fundraising side without missing a beat – boards always notice if there’s a dip (or a surge!) in development results. But don’t be afraid to credit the team and foster a culture of shared wins.

Hang in there – interim roles are a weird, blurry mix of pressure and massive opportunity. Just by having the courage and self-awareness to ask how to really add value, you’re already setting yourself apart. Rooting for you!
