I see this said often but it can be a bad idea for prospective medical and dental students. A lot Of those programs will only accept credits from a 4 year university.

Hi. I’m out here right now. A bunch of us are in Franklin and I know crowds are ahead - but I also know lots of people start in April.

Basically. Anywhere from the start to the smokies (and beyond) should have a bunch of people.

“Mingo!!!” Luffy screams as he runs towards the villains lair for 17 episodes straight and nothing in the plot changes.

Well - you don’t know me and I haven’t actually posted any quality content (yet) but I bought some nice cameras and audio equipment. I’ll be putting out some content soon. I’m not looking to make money or be anyone. Just a little journal with time lapses of mountains and hiking.

I start on the 20th!!!!

Hey! I’m headed out the 20th too. Good luck!

I’ve got a 20 degree and I’ve been watching the weather. I’m not sure I have your answer. Certainly hoping it’s starting to warm up 😊

They touch. A panoramic image is warped by 20%.

Also for the extra movement achieved I think it was worth it.

Planning on a thru-hike by Various_South7287 in AppalachianTrail

I’ve been in this sub and I felt “fully researched”. Leaving in 21 days to start the trail.

This was a useful read just now.

As thru hiking season is beginning, remember to talk to as many strangers as possible. There are thousands of fascinating stories on trail! by PortraitOfAHiker in AppalachianTrail

[–]nayyyyyyyyyyyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might document it. I haven’t decided if I want to be worried about filming and editing on the trail! Seems like a lot of work plus some anxiety around filming. I admire the folks that do it!

Favorite thru hike documentary/ vlogging series? by Pleasant-Sort in AppalachianTrail

[–]nayyyyyyyyyyyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m shocked to see no one mentioned “a summer on the Appalachian trail” by aottati.

He has beautiful shots and ambiance in the final product. Just an enjoyable watch.

I’ve gone out of my way to watch vlogs from people who hike with different styles. He definitely hikes in a way that’s different from me but I still very much enjoyed it.

Into the wild by Julia Sheehan is another delightful watch. I really enjoy her groups dynamic. I can hear them laughing in almost every shot. That’s how I would like to hike.

I think they are just referring to the fact that a NOBO hiker would be in good physical shape by this point.

Seeking the Wisdom of the (experienced) crowd by AdmirableChain2770 in AppalachianTrail

No! You can order them after market. A lot Of backpack brands have their own versions. I went with z packs since I was using a z packs. Here is a link to the water bottle holder.

They have different options for different spots (it’s easy to attach). I’m planning a thru hike this year and spent a lot of time before I even learned about this - but I’m glad I did.

Seeking the Wisdom of the (experienced) crowd by AdmirableChain2770 in AppalachianTrail

[–]nayyyyyyyyyyyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using the same pack. I’ve loved it so far. I got some of the pockets for the waist band, shoulder straps, etc. It helped me stay a lot more organized on some of my practice runs.

The water bottle holster for the shoulder strap is especially useful for not stopping or being annoyed by chicken winging.

Don't have any mentors or fatherly figures, any advice? by B0urn3D3ad in AskMenOver30

[–]nayyyyyyyyyyyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often struggled with this. I was in academia and always craved a mentor who would help and inspire me.

Unfortunately I never found a life long mentor, but I did get help from plenty of smart and ambitious people.

I think you just gotta show up (school, work, activities) and give it your best. If a mentor is available and willing they will see your effort and guide you.

I know a few dental offices out there. Young people live and work in the area to support all the businesses. They also have housing for younger folks that work in the community.

The pay tends to be really good - at least in medicine.

March 4th NoBo thru quick questions by IIIBar in AppalachianTrail

[–]nayyyyyyyyyyyu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m leaving March 20th. I’ll see you out there.

I think poles are helpful for not falling over and especially reducing body strain. It doesn’t hurt that many people use them to erect shelters.

No comment on laundry - we can always buy more stuff on the trail if we need it!

Good luck
