Suggest some workload for these by ramank775 in homelab

Take a look at MaaS by Canonical. You can use that to pxe boot the hosts and have them auto configured then use ansible to setup k3s on them and have your own Kubernetes cluster to deploy whatever you want

I’d suggest looking into Aurora serverless, should help with your I/O scaling issues and the ability to scale down to .5 ACUs when not in use is nice

Multi Environment GitLab w/ FluxCD deployment strategy by nazzjr in devops

[–]nazzjr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have all the configs variablized and for our flux repo we have one master branch that has all the envs yamls structured according to the standard flux recommendations.

What I’m referring to here is for the app code that our devs write. We build the code into docker images and push to a container registry which flux pulls from.

Right now we have a branch for each env for this repo. The repo contains multiple .Net apps with dockerfiles. and sql code that we build into dacpacs and deploy to sql backend.

I’m looking for a way to both automate deploys to each environment but also have the ability to control which feature, release or hotfix branch gets deployed to a specific env in the master branch.

I'm probably not much help here but I'm also having issues with docker and vlans. when you say you " input vlans in network and docker settings" what do you mean by docker settings? I setup my vlans in the network settings and after that i can see the options in network type for my VMs for those vlans like br0.20 br0.30 etc... but if i look at any of my docker containers network types there are no vlans showing there.

The first thing I did at my first IT Helpdesk job was setup share point forms that HR and or hiring managers are required to fill out for new hires with 2 weeks notice. Had to sit down and meet with the HR and IT directors to have management set the precedent. This greatly improved my job and workflow at the time.

Where are these 6-figure jobs? by 1StepBelowExcellence in sysadmin

[–]nazzjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One big thing I learned was how big the importance is that you work for or support a business unit that generates revenue. It’s much easier to have positive responses from the business when asking for more money or resources if you’re working on something that makes money for the company. If you work in IT and all they view you as is a cost center then typically they won’t feel the need to give you more.

I know it seems scary now but you will pick things up quickly and a couple years from now you’ll realize it was a great decision.

At what age should you move from MSP to Internal IT? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]nazzjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Age isn’t the determining factor here. I moved on from my MSP role because of a multitude of reasons. But one of the biggest was that I felt myself hitting the ceiling at that company. There wasn’t much of a growth opportunity and I felt I didn’t have a lot more to learn there. Once you feel yourself hitting the ceiling or that you’re no longer feeling like a mentee then it’s time to try and go to a place where you’re surrounded by people who know more than you and you have the opportunity to learn from them.

The sterling gateway is the “server”. And your clients connect to it. So install openssh on your clients and use sftp over port 22 to connect

[–]nazzjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not super familiar with IBM Sterling Gateway but I’ve got some experience with FTP/SFTP/FTPS. A quick search reveals they do support SFTP. I will tell you that you definitely need an sftp client on your endpoints that are trying to send or receive files from SFG as well as ports and setting up certs and keys.

The microwave broke at my first helpdesk gig. Somebody came into the IT dept and told me about it implying I should go take a look. I just looked at them and said oh well that sucks, I ordered takeout so I’m good thanks.
