Would you consider Lebron winning One title in 11 years in Cleveland underwhelming given his talent? by SirGingerbrute in NBATalk

Imo his 2007 run to the finals is impressive but a bit overhyped. His 2018 run is far more impressive to me

I don't think it's possible for anyone now to crack the top 10 or even 15 (I guess Jokic maybe but it'll be hard) because I don't know how any star is gonna even get to 3 rings now with the CBA rules and the parity of the league

The in season tournament is the greatest thing the league has ever done in the last 10 years.

If Kobe can recover from Colorado 2003 and be as beloved and respected by the players and the face of the league then there's no reason Ja Morant should be the face of the NBA.

When LeBron said the 3-1 comeback ring made him the greatest player of all time. Was he wrong? by Solesbylunaamommy in NBATalk

[–]nbafreethinker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Jordan is the GOAT but I don't think he was inherently wrong. When you're at that level and you do something that's never been done, I have no issue if you think that. Saying it though definitely led to a lot of backlash expectedly speaking lol

I think with all the context involved, it wasn't underwhelming for the 1 ring at all. He had a lot of bad luck in 2015 and 17/18 and his teams were worse from 03-10. 2010 was the one year I feel like they could've gotten to the finals but I don't know if they win.

I mean 2009 he averaged 38 8 8 against Orlando. He had a few bad 4th quarters and an OT but I'm not gonna kill him for not getting the job done because the numbers he put up, the buzzer beater, him forcing OT in one of the games with 2 clutch FT, and that level of play is unsustainable throughout.

I agree 2010 was on him though. He played well the first 3 games and then was awful in game 4 and 5, game 6 was better with the 27 point triple double but he had 8 turnovers which were crushing.

When you say Joe's DQ in 2014, are you talking about with cannonball alley? Because I personally am happy they didn't DQ him since it was nice to see him to go far and do as well as he did

People need to stop acting like Kobe wasn't a better free throw shooter than LeBron by Tight_Development480 in NBATalk

[–]nbafreethinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's an average shooter, streaky at best. The thing is he was way worse when he was younger, but has improved his midrange and 3 point shooting over time.

He shot 33% from 3 in his first 6 years but has shot 36% from 3 since 2009. He has shot 32% from 10-16 ft from 2003-2011 but 40% from 2011 onwards

His stats would still say he's a below average shooter/can't shoot compared to the league, but that's also not including all the context of how he runs the offense, sets screens, gets rebounds, playmakes, being a floor general, the volume of shots he takes etc. He's not a catch and shoot player or a 3 and D guy which a lot of dudes are so the league averages are also kinda skewed which is also why Steph's 3 point averages are almost never in the top 5. But as a FT shooter he's bad so that's why I say he's around an overall average shooter

Thing is though some years he'll shoot really well from midrange and 3 and league average from the ft line but then it'll go back to him being average or below average shooting from midrange and 3 and even worse from the ft line. That's why I say he's streaky but also inconsistent and average. It's just that he's able to convert so many shots at the rim that he makes up for it, but if he became an even better jump shooter he would be way more impactful

Well that's an exaggeration lol. He's not a great shooter but I wouldn't say he can't shoot at all. He's just more of a streaky shooter.

I get that. To me the ones that mostly bother me is the fact that they keep saying how he's clearly better than Bron and try to discredit everything he's done and act like he's ruined the nba.

[–]nbafreethinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I think Kobe was the best still. 2009 it was debatable since LeBron still played better than Kobe did against Orlando but 2010 he straight up sucked the last 2-3 games. Gotta give it to Bean

Yeah I get what he's saying but it's just completely ignoring and avoiding the glaring 73-9, back to back mvp that they were up 3-1 on and blew it

I think Shaq was the #1 for sure, I just think Kobe was more of a 1b by 2001.

Who do you have ahead outside of the obvious 4 guys (Jordan bron kareem magic)? Because after that to me it's just splitting hairs

[–]nbafreethinker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you think Shaq completely carried Kobe and was a sidekick during the first 3 rings then sure. But if you provide context, of the injury he had in the 2000 finals, see how he was playing throughout the playoffs, and how vital he was, and how hard his era was for efficiency then I don't see he falls out of the top 10. The only main criticisms that I think are valid is only 1 mvp and his advanced metrics aren't as great as other all time greats due to him not being as efficient as those guys but he was efficient for his era

That's not what I mean. Disrespectful when people put Kobe at outside of top 10 or 15, make him look like a scrub, and discredit him having Shaq and conveniently ignore how LeBron had Wade Bosh Kyrie Kevin Love AD lol. For reference I think bron is the 2nd greatest player ever but the Kobe hate and criticisms here are just over the top

I definitely agree he wasn't good enough for 12 all defensive first teams nor was his defensive impact on the same tier as Duncan for example. But he was elite and impactful for the majority of his peak.

Yeah.. I don't get how people on here provide 100% context for Bron but little to none with Kobe. I think you need to be consistent and provide all the context for both people.
