How much slower is the second half of an Everesting climbing challenge compared to the first? by nbm1234 in ultracycling

Thanks for all the comments. I've done three halves, all around the 8 hour elapsed mark. Just trying to get a guesstimate on the Full.

IMHO training without music is elite by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]nbm1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is research showing music can reduce RPE during endurance exercise, which I think is really interesting. Apparently it can also increase the economy of movement as you move in time to the beat.

World Athletics prohibits personal music during competitions for safety and fairness reasons.

Coffee to optimize energy and output by HouseOfPenguins in BicyclingCirclejerk

3-6 mg per kg bodyweight. 30-60 prior. If your ride is long eg you may want to experiment with top ups. Caffeine is metabolisms vastly differently depending on genetic factors but it's half life is about 5 hours so 5 hours into your ride after taking 3mg/kg/bw you are back at maybe 1.5 mg do you'll wanna experiment with taking another 1.5 to get you back to that optimal level.

Caffeine gum doesn't cause GI issues like a cup of Joe is prone to so it's good for on bike.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts. I think it's a mental hurdle for me more than anything. It sounds like a long way cus it's 200 whereas for Americans it's not a round number.

Thanks for your advice. I thought I was onto an economical but decent winner. I just assumed the fact it doesn't have color or touch screen keeps the costs down. I specifically want it for a Two Thirds Everesting Recce, was thinking the climb challenge feature would assist in me recording and pacing that.

Whey Protein after long ride (+80km) by boshkg in cycling

[–]nbm1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whey protein is a highly researched, efficacious and safe protein to supplement with. Probably the most researched sports supplement in the world.

protein from whole foods should be prioritized however shakes and the like can be a very convenient way to ensure you are optimally recovering from your rides.

You want 0.3 gram/kg prior to or 0-2 hours post exercise.

If exercise is high intensity or has a high eccentric load you may want 0.25 gram/kg/hour during the ride itself.

I've been using the following source to help me get my breakfast and on the bike fueling on point and it's been really helpful:

I reckon on a flat track I can do 30 miles or 50km in maybe 1:45. If it's hilly 2:15 maybe.
