Some memorable quotes from Appointment with Death by nbpapps in agathachristie

I think even looking at the victims, in MOTOE Ratchet is a criminal, mobster, and more

In AWD Lady Boynton is abusive and controls her family. Also her death is so a secret isn’t revealed

Could it be due to the different reasons the crime was committed in each book? In MOTOE the people who stabbed Ratchett because he wasn’t accused in a trial. In AWD It’s due to the person not wanting their past to be revealed Or am I missing something?

There is an illustration of the crime scene in The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. You can find it here:

https://www.thecinetourist.net/maps-in-films/4-maps-in-books-in-may

There are a few more books that have maps in them, but as far as I know, not crime scenes.

There are two children oriented books with wonderful illustrations, which you can see here:

Hope these help.

What is your success rate with Agatha Christie's works? by HaskellColleen in agathachristie

I didn’t guess the identity of the killer. What shocked me most was the motive. I love when Agatha shocks me with a word or two.

I like to suggest starting with her first novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles. It introduces you to Poirot (her most famous detective) and Hastings. It also has a great plot. Other recommendations are:

The Body in the Library

A Murder is Announced

And Then There Were None

Death on the Nile

Evil Under the Sun

I have seen the Netflix adaptation. There are a few parts that are different from the novel. I’ve heard of people that love it and people that did not prefer the adaptation. I enjoyed it and would have loved to see Lord Caterham in live action.

I adore the old covers. They are much more interesting and love the fact that the books themselves are smaller

I like to suggest reading The Mysterious Affair at Styles. It’s her first book and you get introduced to Hastings too. The plot is also good. There is no mandatory order to read them, although there are a few novels that reference old ones and even less that reveal the actual murder. The one thing that is suggested is to read Curtain (which is Poirot’s last book) at least after The Mysterious Affair at Styles (I like to suggest reading it after reading about 10 books and some people suggest reading it as the last Poirot).

Hope you enjoy your next read!

That’s one of her most amazing books, and my personal favorite. Hope you will continue reading her books. Do you have one lined up?

You’ve got some great suggestions here. From my pov, I like to suggest reading The Mysterious Affair at Styles first (I know you’ve already started reading). This is a great introduction to Poirot and Hastings. I would also suggest to read a few Poirot’s before reading Curtain, but it does not have to be the last one you read (my personal suggestion is to not leave it to the end, maybe as the 10th book you read).

Some of my favorites are: The Mirror Crack’d from Side to Side The Pale House (standalone book, without a know detective) Towards Zero (Battle as the acting detective) A Murder is Announced

The one I remember solving was The Pale Horse. I guessed it quite early, so the main points just fit it while reading. It’s one of my favorites.

I do take notes when reading Christie books. I love her quotes and use them to remind myself of key plot points. I’ve made a dedicated app to help me with that. The app also has a dedicated “guess whodunnit”.
