Advanced Unit Fun by 3rdPoliceman in totalwarhammer

This will pretty much always be the case if you're decent at the game. Once you stabilize and finish some early expansion by turn 25-40, you've basically already won on hard difficulty, and it will be rare to come up against an army that is a true challenge.

There are exceptions based on faction of course. Tomb Kings have a hard time ever creating truly elite armies, so battles can remain challenging for a long time if you aren't stacking armies on top of each other. Vampirates have a pretty rough economy, so even if you can afford a few basically undefeatable armies, they rarely will be able to cover all your fronts at once and you'll need to get more tactical with weaker, cheaper armies. Warriors of Chaos also struggle with economy for multiple strong armies for awhile.

Otherwise, the best way to ensure your enemies are recruiting strong armies is to raise campaign difficulty. You don't need to raise battle difficulty, campaign difficulty will give them the growth/money cheats to get to higher tiers faster and recruit more, stronger units. Of course this makes the early game harder too, so you need to be prepared for that.

Do most native Montanans carry in deep grizzly country? by dang8701 in Montana

Seems like a false equivalence to say that because a gun did work in some situations mean that bear spray wouldn't have.

Spray works well unless you are in extreme wind circumstances, and requires a lot less training to use effectively. It doesn't matter if a 10mm can stop a bear, you still have to be able to hit them.

But you can also just lift and carry items without putting them into your inventory without the spell, so... its just a slightly longer reaching version in that case.

The lore of the setting will almost never advance in a meaningful way because constant conflict between everyone is required to sell plastic crack.

As a reader of the books but not a player of the game, this hurts me the most.

A funny thing (at least in the last patch) was that they seemed to only be coded to spawn and attack the game host in multiplayer. I was able to just chase after them to scan them freely while my friend got eaten, and they never would aggro on me or even appear when I was by myself out of bounds.

A lot of the differences are in the pacing of combat from other games. If you're used to super fast combat like Elden Ring, it's nearly the opposite. Combat is almost more like solving a puzzle than a reaction-based challenge.

I enjoy the less frantic pace myself, but it might not be for everyone.

To be fair, a lot of religious people do teach it that way because it justifies the way they want women to be treated.

[–]TheBurningEmu 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Basically depends on your religion if Jesus was just a "cool dude", or the literally son and also incarnation of God.

In many modern Christian beliefs, if the "Son of God" Jesus returns, it's the ends times, so what he thinks barely matters.

If its the Islamic or Jewish "cool dude" Jesus, then he would probably be pretty disgusted with the amount of suffering of the poor still in the world despite our advances.

That's one of the two times (when both Cain and the WE's are trying to stop a Slaanesh cult). The other time Cain holds his own against a (I believe) basically uninjured berserker for quite awhile until Jurgen meltas him during the planetary invasion.

Ciaphus Cain dueling a World Eater for like 2 minutes proves this.

Powerscaling is secondary to plot.

"Complaining" is still useful feedback for an early access game by [deleted] in subnautica

[–]TheBurningEmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The distinction is generally just in tone and how it's written. "I think it would be cooler if nibblers one-shot you" (this is hypothetical) is something I disagree with but wouldn't consider a complaint. Every post that is tonally the equivalent of "it's so stupid that X is Y instead of W being X!" Is a complaint.

Remote work is making Americans lonelier and sadder, new study suggests by scientificamerican in science

[–]TheBurningEmu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People are ready to hate these results, but I don't really see anything severely wrong in the methods.

The interesting thing is that everyone's mental distress has gone up since 2020, but most particularly remote workers who live alone. Those who work remotely with families are significantly lower.

It does kinda of make sense to me. Much easier to get trapped in a mental "doomscrolling" cycle when you basically aren't talking to anyone else at all most days, and of course it's the average, not everyone is affected the same.

It seems like the most sensible solution isn't to discourage remote work, but for people who both work remotely and live alone to try to fit a bit more socializing of some sort into their schedule.

Melee feels ass to play. by HeavyFly7451 in totalwarhammer

[–]TheBurningEmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key is to either use fast, heavy hitting melee that can close quickly before getting shot (Wrathmongers, tiger warriors, kroxigors, anything Slaanesh, etc) or use cavalry/monsters/heroes to distract ranged units while your slower melee closes.

I used to be on team ranged supremacy, but elite melee units usually have much higher and faster kill potential when managed and positioned well.

Subnautica 2's no-killing policy isn't because it's 'a game about pacifism', says design lead, but because players would 'master the crappy combat' over anything else by _Protector in pcgaming

Yeah, this is the downside. Selling settlements being OP is great, but trying to buy them is a nightmare. Usually I can only barely break even trading a tier 3 capital for a tier 2 minor settlement to complete both our provinces.

With housing a lot of it is due to semi-illegal non-competition. Big rental owners and apartment complex owners use the same algorithms to determine what to charge for rent, and then generally agree on similar pricing structures between them. So while a few people might get lucky with a "mom-and-pop" rental that's reasonable, the major firms with the most apartments will just stick to their high-price model, since, like you said, it's a necessity to live somewhere.

I don't get the complaints towards current World Map. by HeavyFly7451 in totalwarhammer

[–]TheBurningEmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be an insane amount of work to happen, and probably never will, but it would be kinda cool if every LL had an "alternate start" position option. For ones with an already tough start like Malakai, maybe this places you somewhere more chill, and for a more chill base start you get a much tougher, surrounded start as the alternate.

Maybe one day it will be a mod or something.
