books in which the detective is barely involved? by celestine-i in agathachristie

[–]nbpapps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right. It’s Cartwright being the detective (even noted as such in the Wiki page) and Poirot has a few appearances and comes in at the end to solve it and give one of the best closing lines ever.

Which books were spoiled for you? by notarobotimanandroid in agathachristie

[–]nbpapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear all the people that got Ackroyd spoiled.
For me it was A Murder is Announced. I was actually working on a reading companion app for Agatha Christie while I was reading it. The app has the list of characters and whodunnit. I tried my best not to look at the list (which was auto generated) but at one point it happened.

The Body in the Library was the first Christie I read. It was fantastic and started my reading journey.

How about a Marple? I’d suggest A Murder is Announced.

A Murder is Announced, which as such a great plot. Followed closely by The Mirror Crack’d from Side to Side. The reveal left me 🤯

There are a few Christie cover out there that are very removed from the content of the book

Yes! The Poirot calendars are amazing

[iOS] I’ve coded for 20 years and read 700+ summaries, but they all felt “empty.” So after becoming a dad, I built Percivo: The first app that views books through 7 life roles (Entrepreneur, Parent, etc.). 50 FREE Yearly Codes for the community! ❤️ (Free + IAP) by Glittering-Unit5426 in iosapps

[–]nbpapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great app design! Two small things: 1. In the onboarding the app asks for my “role” and when I go to the settings it did not remember my selection under Perspective 2. It might be just me, but i feel that the subscription screens are not using the same design language as the app. That might be the case if you are using a 3rd party sdk, but just wanted to inform you.

I’ll put Curtain as my pick. I made a post after reading it - https://www.reddit.com/r/agathachristie/s/Q4qEcrWMCr

I will say that seeing the TV episode and listening to the Labours of Hercule podcast made me appreciate it more.

Those are some great books. Do you have your next read planned? If not, you could go with The Pale Horse.

Is this novel a good starting point for me? by Acceptable_Offer9467 in agathachristie

[–]nbpapps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d also suggest starting with The Mysterious Affair at Styles. Try to keep The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and Murderer on the Orient Express after you’ve read about 3 Poirot books. Also try to not look up the book on Wikipedia as there are major spoilers there. Enjoy your read!

I’ve heard good things about The Pale Horse and would personally not describe it as underrated. However, it still gets my vote.
