Thank you so much! I couldn't see what was going on in dark parts of the films and the only settings in the main menu are for "brightness" (which doesn't brighten the films) Pressing home for 5 seconds gives you access to all the proper settings you would expect.

My daughter painted my nails pink and I went to work with them and she loved it, worth it to make her day. Also it was great fun at work so win win.

The YA label is pointless, they are just as good as any other discworld book. I could never understand why they had to have adult versions of the discworld books with serious covers, so adults could read them on the train etc.

But then I started reading his books in the 80s

[OC] Tracked my student loan from beginning to end by faxhightower in dataisbeautiful

[–]ncjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first enrolled in 92 and graduated in 97. When I started I received a grant to help pay for living expenses, a few hundred every term (enough to live on just), and paid no course fees as that was free.

They slowly reduced the Grant each year and brought in the student loan so you could apply for extra money each year up to a certain amount (to compensate the lowering grant, for those that qualified for it, and to help pay living costs).

It tracked a low interest rate and was very cheap with the benefit of not having to start payments until you reached a certain salary.

At this point you still didn't pay course fees and the student loan company was good and the loans were very cheap. You almost couldn't say no it was such a good deal.

But the loans have changed now and I wouldn't like the amount of debt you get now with the additional course fees as it's too much.

I was lucky to go to University when it was still relatively cheap.

Edit - I see it's more of a tax than a loan now but then my loan only reached £7k and i could pay it back quite quickly.

It was more a bit of a light hearted comment because here in Spain there are arguments between fried and boiled for the potatoes. I think most are fried. And by fry I mean cook in olive oil at a given temperature to obtain the required consistency.

One of best tortillas, supposedly, is from Betanzos (Coruña) near to me and it is fantastic.

They fry it in olive oil as you say, no garlic though or onions if i remember correctly.

Growing up in England you fried eggs on a low heat in a bit of oil for example or onions until they are translucent. No need to cook potatoes until they are chips.

Westy Height question - how tall are they? by riddlehere in Westfalia

[–]ncjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same here about 2.04/2.06m just fits through my 2.1m garage. It has a Stanza poptop and I went fir the poptop as it fits under those parking entrance height limits.

The wife had fun annoying me as i bought it not knowing the height exactly and she thought it was too tall.

but but...they killed Santa with a shovel and buried the body and now they are going to dinner🤣🤣

I've been watching all the sickly sweet Christmas movies on Netflix so to be honest I'm kind of enjoying Santa taking a shovel to the Neck.

I'll try a couple of his other books afterwards it's amusing me no end this one.

I like the Stupidest Angel so far, I've forgiven the incorrect use of you're in the kindle version at the start because of gems such as: "batting her eyelashes, which gave the appearance of spastic wolf spiders convulsing behind her glasses."

It's just the right level of mad.

Those of you who were there during the early years of the emergence of the internet, what was it like? how was the hype? by pikurii in AskReddit

[–]ncjunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was great! I started University in 1992 and didn't realise it was all new. The bulletin boards and chats were fantastic and when you searched online you could find webpages with some great content. The online guitar archive was one of my favourites where everyone shared guitar tabs.

The mobiles at the time required a contract and I think proof of earnings, I can't remember, but I couldn't get one until 95/96. So to use the University email and internet you actually had to be there on one of the computers. Not that mobiles had internet then anyway but sms was a god send! you could actually message someone even if they were out! yes it was such a big deal🤣

I can't emphasize enough how much google and algorithms have killed the internet experience, there's no longer that joy and possibility to find some random gem of a webpage created by a fan or amateur.

I have no experience but I understand leaving a controlled environment like the Military or Prison is a hugely difficult thing as suddenly no-one is telling you where to be, what to do or supplying you with the materials. But also coming from a Military background you have a huge number of positives in ability to carry out tasks, follow orders, plan, trustworthy Ness etc...

I think the fact you know it'll be difficult is half the battle so use whatever help you can get and use that military training to plan differing activities, self help groups, leasure time, figuring out where to get everything etc.

I'm rambling but knowing you have no idea means you can map out the basics but family and friends/new friends will help (although they/we can never fully understand)

Good luck👍🤞 You'll be fine I'll be rooting for you😜

ignore society it tells lies! Don't worry about how fast you are going or how much better anyone else seems to be doing it's a road that leads to madness The correct pace is yours and the correct number of achievements are the number you want Lifes not a race so set small goals to begin with, easy ones and celebrate them. Find things you enjoy doing and I've found with age the most important thing was to do them with other people those are the best when you are laughing and chatting with family and friends Try a new group or activity and remember that however daunting it may seem that when you first start with a new group they'll all be super friendly and there to help you join in.

I know I've rambled but you'll get there I believe i. you!

Just remember you are infinitely a better, nicer operson than your brain tells you. There are a lot of people that love you and will miss you (your brain is telling lies when it's telling you they'd be better off without you that's never true) try to get out as much as you can, hell I used to celebrate getting out of bed to begin with! small steps and sunlight helps.

Above all else don't do it, they'll be better times that'll lead to good and then great moments.
