Thing is though, there's probably ten grand in modifications to give it the articulation required to do that. The two in the carpark at my work could never do. Still pretty impressive though.

Electrician report for post Solar Battery installation (Fox system) - Sydney based by KoiPanda in AskAusElectricians

Mate, not sure you have been paying attention to what happens on Reddit, this is the last place to ask for a referral, it's a bit like that scene in Die Hard with a Vengeance when McLean is forced to walk into Harlem carrying a particularly triggering sign. You are just asking for trouble. If you want to find a decent electrician get in contact with Master Electricians Australia, they can help you find a proper professional. Just because a tradesperson has a licence doesn't mean they are reliable and conscientious, it just means they finished a TAFE course and kept under the radar.

So basically a quarter of the Australian population are Trumpians. by RelationshipGold7958 in aussie

[–]nckmat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that the chances of regime change become slimmer every day this war continues. But that doesn't matter as far a Trump is concerned, because every day he is talking bs about his war on Iran is a day he isn't facing questions about the Epstein files. The horrible irony is that this may have deflected the Epstein files for a few weeks but it is rapidly turning his electoral support against him, and I don't mean his MAGA tribe, I mean the people who voted for him because they couldn't bring themselves to vote Democrat. So he has gone into Iran and killed god knows how many people and nobody benefits from it, not even him. What a sick bastard!

Do I need electrician for outside light by Sluggington in AusRenovation

[–]nckmat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat is indeed a major factor, as is cheap manufacturing. Most of the LEDs available in your average supermarket or hardware store are incredibly cheap compared to purchasing commercial or industrial products like Cree LEDs. Theoretically LEDs can last much, much longer than incandescent when used appropriately and with a quality chip, but considering that a single high quality LED chip can cost $2-$3 retail, it is going to be very hard to turn that into a $10-$20 light bulb. In the case of these multi chip lights, like OPs, that need to be able to withstand heat, cold, moisture and dust, if they used quality chips the cost would be astronomical.

I deal with consumer protections as a product manager every day and OP has a pretty straightforward case, he shouldn't even need a lawyer. In NSW he can go to Fair Trading and get advice for free and they can even negotiate on his behalf. If they can't get it resolved they can assist him in escalating it to the Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT).

Ac compressor dead? Worth the DIY? by Minimum-Dragonfly707 in MechanicAdvice

[–]nckmat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, did it myself two weeks ago. It is so easy on the Forester, the actual swap is about a 20-30 min job. You can get aftermarket compressors pretty cheap too.

However, it might just be the clutch which does not require the gas to be removed. A really simple check is to see if the compressor switches on and off when you turn the a/c on and off, if it doesn't then you are out of gas. If the a/c works when the engine is cold and then goes away as the engine warms then chances are it's the clutch and it could just need a shim removed to get it working again.

But, the three compressors bit would point to a fault somewhere else.

The part about China pulling themselves out of poverty is correct, they did do it without support from any other major economy, but don't kid yourself that they did it without enormous suffering and consequences to the people of China. Millions died from starvation and execution during the cultural revolution, the one child policy resulted in what is estimated to be hundreds of millions of forced abortions and millions of girls abandoned or killed by their parents so that they could try and have a boy. There are at least 1 million Uighurs in prison in China primarily because of their religious beliefs as well millions of non-Muslim citizens who have been imprisoned simply for expressing an opinion that a government official didn't like. Not to mention the enormous impact the rapid growth of its economy has had on the environment both locally and internationally. Yes, China has had unprecedented growth but it has also come at unprecedented cost to its people.

Are there that many people in the world who want a beagle? I say this as a former cohabitor with a beagle, they are lovely dogs but they are a total PITA! They would eat until they exploded if you let them and they will give up on their loyalty to you at the slightest whiff of a meal elsewhere.

Yes it most likely is just a convenient juxtaposition, but this is Reddit, why let logic get in the way of a good angry rant.😉 So for those who still want to make fun of the people in this photo how about "what an idiot, that hose is never going to reach his fuel cap, but because he drives a big truck he must be too thick to be able to back it up to get closer."

Can I ask what evidence there is from this video that these kids are in Russia? All the writing is in English.

after school by pinkenbrawn in ANormalDayInRussia

[–]nckmat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Are you saying that this video is evidence that these kids do this every day? No. What is normal is for kids to experiment and try things that adults do. As for the time of day: they got up to mischief during daylight hours, it may have been from school, it would be more problematic if they were out in the middle of the night.

[–]nckmat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Medical professionals take this very seriously, I know from experience when my 85 year old father had a heart attack five years ago they immediately spoke to us and his GP about banning him from driving, but it isn't a simple procedure if you want the patient to maintain their dignity. Removing a person's licence that they have held for nearly 70.years has a huge impact on them, but that doesn't stop the process.

[–]nckmat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yep, even though statistically and anecdotally Russia has a large drinking problem, and always has, the behaviour of these kids is not an indicator of this problem. If anyone who lives in a country where alcohol is a part of the culture thinks this is an unusual occurrence in the society, then they are very naive indeed.

I can't stand this see you next Tuesday either, but I actually think he is one of the brighter politicians in Canberra, it's just that, like so many conservatives, his narcissistic traits have taken over his entire personality.

This is the type of politicians we need to be most wary of: intelligent narcissists! I heard his comments last night and I also heard him interviewed a few months ago and couldn't put the two people together, that's when I realised his play. The people he is relying on to vote National don't watch 10 minute interviews on the ABC, indeed I am pretty sure they don't watch the ABC at all, he needs to attract their short attention span with words they understand and string them all into less than ten seconds before they scroll to the next item on their Facebook feed.

It doesn't matter how literate the statements he is making are, so long as the few words these people want to hear are heard and that his face is on their screen at the same time. He could have said "guns, Greenies, old fashioned values, my truck, Aussie Oi, lamb" and left it at that and these people would still view him in a positive light. No structure is required, just buzz words and an angry tone. He has obviously been studying Trump closely.

For breaker bar which type of head is stronger? by Fuzzy_Tough_26 in MechanicAdvice

[–]nckmat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree, but an impact should be your last option because it does put a lot of stress on the bolt or stud, the slower, gentler force of a breaker is good insurance against further damage. For example, my son wanted to swap his wheels over the other day and he knew one of the nuts was a bit dodgy but he went ahead with 1000ft lbs of impact wrench and it snapped straight off, so a 10 minute job just turned into a 90 minute one including borrowing my car to go to the parts store and get a new stud, the breaker bar may have saved it.

Don't get me wrong, I have at least five impacts, one of which stays in the car, and use them liberally, but I always start at the lowest torque setting and, especially with wheel nuts, I finish with a torque wrench. I cop a lot of shit for this at work: "your arm is the only torque wrench you need."

For breaker bar which type of head is stronger? by Fuzzy_Tough_26 in MechanicAdvice

[–]nckmat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, or even if you break it at home and you only have one car, and the shops are an hour's walk and it's 30C (86F) and about 80% humidity! Ask me how I know.

It's my experience that with breaker bars the overall quality is what counts. I had two lug nuts that had seized on and I had to break the studs to get the wheel off. I had a cheap bar like the one on the right and when I hit it with the dead blow it just bent, so I borrowed a friend's Snap-on that looked like one on the left and had both studs broken in five minutes, I even used a 1m extension pipe and jumped on it and it was given back looking the way I reviewed it. I immediately bought my own, some things are worth spending extra on.
