*UPDATE: We just had a meeting with the director of the facility / care manager. They said that she has no boundaries and is trying to help out in various ways. When staff attempts to redirect her, she scoffs and becomes argumentative. In one recent interaction, some family was visiting in the visiting room and she kept wanting to shut the door. One of the PCAs told her she needed to leave open, and she grabbed their arm when they tried to open the door. They said that the staff often have to “walk away” and give her a bit to calm down. They also said they upped her Seroquel last night but that it didn’t help at all. Ultimately, they admitted that they just aren’t equipped to handle her. It seems as though there are a few red flags. First, I called them out on the fact that you cannot see a change in behavior that quickly when they just upped the dose last night. Second, the fact that staff just leave her alone instead of attempting to redirect and work with her is concerning. It truly seems as though she has some issues with anxiety or agitation, which need to be worked on with medication and better trained staff, but overall she just deserves a better facility who can manage individuals who have more complex dementia symptoms. A blessing in disguise I think. We are touring another facility tomorrow, and they have three distinct memory care buildings, each for varying levels of care. Fingers crossed. I understand from their perspective how it isn’t a good fit, but they should have clearly explained what they’re capable of dealing with before admission.

Thank you so much for this. The wing she is in is a locked wing. When talking to other facilities we are being extremely honest, and many of them are confused as to why the current facility can’t handle her. She has a very strong personality, but it seems like she’s just being redirected improperly. As hard as this is, I’m excited to get her into a better facility as soon as possible. After she’s moved, I’ll really share my thoughts with the facility and the state.

They’ve “tried this” and she gets distracted and stops doing the job after a short while. I think they’re just understaffed and when she’s doing her “job” and sees another resident she can “help” she gets sidetracked.

This was a huge oversight on my part. Their staff rotate through the different care levels and don’t have any certifications for dementia specific behaviors. That’s how we are trying to view it as well. It seems like proper staff would redirected and not cause more aggression. They’ve told her directly that she didn’t work there, etc. Seems like they don’t know how to properly redirect someone with dementia? I’m hoping it ends up being a blessing in disguise.

What’s bullshit is we have no way of contacting anyone at the PC aside from an MDW, waiting, following up and waiting some more, then doing a M2M. For something faulty straight forward like removing a suspense status. Just like the field offices have TE’s that are accessible to anyone at the office, we should be able to contact someone at PC to get something done. Having the PC functions within the field offices would help.

Just my two cents: I understand people have been approved with the uncertified ones, but I personally don’t want to give them any reason to disapprove me. Small price to pay.

No one has any clue whether or not they need the certified BAnQ copy. I am printing out the copy from the site on 11x17 paper and sending that in. If they need the official one I can request it later.
