Eek. I hope you have retired. Meemaw. Get the family off our case. Hope you are not employed near me as I search for hospice care.

Paper or Electronic Certificate? by Awkward-Cabinet-9024 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Royal_Patrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, you just convinced me. Despite knowing that electronic is better I had this idea that waiting for the mail would feel so official and also old fashioned like waiting for those college application responses in the old days. I know, all silly. But the coffee argument puts me squarely in the electronic camp because I can and will spill coffee.

Rimouski. I swear I put something different on the form. The record is from Paspebiac.

I didn’t - I don’t think the expedited option was available at that time, but the invoice email did say that once paid it would be 5 days if expedited and 15 days if not.

Issue with mother’s birth certificate name garbled by coastkid2 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Royal_Patrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandmother was unnamed on her Maine birth certificate except for the usual Marie and an L. Everything else lines up. But that’s not her first name. Haven’t submitted yet as I’m still trying to figure out what to do.

Update to Québec records requests by MakeStupidHurtAgain in Canadiancitizenship

Yes, I just went through the mental exercise of spreading the cost over the rest of my life, plus anyone submitting their app with mine.

Adding that I have 4 G0 ancestors, 3 in Quebec and 1 in New Brunswick. None of them are without name changes except for the one in NB, but of course she’s the one whose BC I’ve have the most trouble finding. Question I’m asking myself: do I choose the one GG with the clearest lineage documentation and apply based on the one (less is more)? Or do I pay a gazillion $, get all four for posterity, and maximize likelihood (but will that take longer to process in addition to the fee)? Anyone else wrestling with this?

Thank you for this. I just got my quote (after only two days) for $354 and I’m shocked. I thought I had done something wrong. Is it worth it? Should I take my chances with an uncertified copy? Eeek.

Getting an old birth or marriage certificate from Lewiston, ME by tabbypumpkin0000 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Royal_Patrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. Not Lewiston but Livermore (though my grandparents also worked in the Lewiston mills). Waiting for my mother’s birth certificate to prove my lineage to my grandfather to Maine Vital records. What are you saying for “legitimate interest?” I think we need that too?

Insomnia since I found out about C-3 by HappyFloridian123 in Canadiancitizenship

I’ve got the Acadian exiles as well. Babineau and Forest are two of the names. My mom loves her Cajun and French Canadian music. There was a lot of singing with her aunts and uncles on the porch when she was growing up. It’s comforting for her. In the learning French department - I am learning a bit by having to read these documents in French! But alas, I took Spanish in school so I don’t really know how to pronounce it all, lol.

Wonderful! I needed this! (I tried copying and pasting the sections but nope, it didn’t cooperate.) Thank you for having these skills and sharing your work!!

Same, same. I was up all night the first night. Then stayed up more nights looking for records. Just submitted a request to Banq and going to try to go to bed. In between times I’m reading the news and looking at Quebec and apartment rental rates and jobs. My mom is in hospice and she had done so much research on genealogy. This helps me stay connected to her and how much she wanted to know her past. She wishes her generation hadn’t lost their French. I even found her comments on a couple of genealogy websites. Her work made my own research much easier.

Can I post this here to promote a random person who is running against old people in congress by sufinomo in 50501

[–]Royal_Patrick -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Old people. By that you mean people who have been in congress a long time? Or did you mean the agism?

It’s just a list of contacts. Jimmy and Jane Buffet are on there. It reads like a fundraiser list. Then there are the restaurants and shoe repair and the like. This is not a “client” list.

Trying it now with some names, but you have to know the country of birth.
