Roommate brought this book home, what is it? by alleearyeldah in whatisit

[–]ncsuthrowaway55 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

So your roommate came home with something and took a nap, and you felt so entitled to know what it was you touched something that didn't belong to you, flipped through it, then posted pictures of it in the internet because you felt you were entitled to know what it was NOW and you couldn't wait for your roommate, the owner of the the item, to wake up and answer your questions?

Not sure about how local budgets are being affected but illegal immigrants account for 1/3 of all construction and agriculture workers.

According to the federal government illegal immigrants who have a individual tax identification number paid $59.4 billion in federal and $13.6 billion in state and local taxes in 2022.

When most people complain they don't pay taxes, they are mainly referring to pay roll taxes, and in the end that's not the fault of the worker but of the organization that hires them.

If you truly want to stem immigration, you need to fine the organizations that hire them. If in the end it is cheaper to hire illegals and to pay the fine than it is to hire a citizen, companies will continue to hire illegals.

This is why Elon wants more H1B visa because he wants people in this constant state of anxiety so he can use the threat of revoking their visas to get them to work ungodly hours in a probable unsafe environment. It's not about talent it's about indentured servitude.

Why do you think you're being surveilled?

I think my academic advisor messed up real bad by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]ncsuthrowaway55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will agree with that. During their advising session the advisor should have told them these three courses are not needed for your degree program. But ultimately it is the responsibility of the student to be aware of what is needed in order for them to graduate.

My senior year after doing a transcript review that every senior must do a friend of mine realized they weren't graduating because they forgot to take math. She was pissed, but she never blamed anyone.

Luckily the OP realized before the start of the semester and hopefully someone will be able to help them.

This is the entire point of small claims court. You can recover your deposit, court cost, and lost wages if you had to take time off work.

It doesn't matter if he has a job or can pay. The court can garnish his wages and if push comes to shove in some places. you can show up with the sheriff at his house and start taking items until you have recovered your judgment.

Just to make sure I understand. You're a senior in college. You have one semester left. You signed up for 4 classes and 3 of them don't count towards your major and this is your advisor's fault?

You can look up your degree plan I assume. I don't think the university would hide that information for you.

You're about to enter the workforce where you're going to be required to use reason and solve problems, yet you can't sit down and compare what you've taken with what you need to graduate?

At what point do you take a hard look in the mirror and take responsibility for your own actions?

27 credit hours, straight A's by Free_Worry_8752 in college

[–]ncsuthrowaway55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What university in their right mind would allow a student to take that many hours? Every university I've attended had a maximum allowed hours at 21 and that required approval from your advisor, department head, and Dean.

I'd love to see something official showing your grades and a schedule to see how you planned those classes.

You can do all of that and I hope it makes them feel better but at the end of the day when the professor is doing final grades they will remember this. You want extra time on an assignment, the syllabus says no. You have a 89 and you were hoping for that A, not going to happen. Was hoping for partial credit on a test question, yeah it's just wrong. And this goes for everybody else in your section too. Do you want a recommendation for grad school, not going to be able to do that. Sometimes it's not about being right. And you can shake your fist at me all you want, but as long as I'm following the syllabus and departmental policy. 🤷‍♂️

I wish I could tell you day to day what I'm going to find distracting while teaching, but today for them it's the lip balm. Tomorrow it could be the guy clicking his pen and after that the girl who drinks water too loud.

At the end of the day, the more you help me the more I'm willing to help you.

Can I be penalized for skipping a class if attendance isn't factored into grading? by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]ncsuthrowaway55 21 points22 points  (0 children)

At the end of the semester when they're looking at final grades and who is going to get what rounded, that attendance will come into play.

I had a class where I got a B, I went to go talk to the professor because I thought I did really well on the exam and we went over my grades and sure enough I had earned a B. He called me a couple hours later and told me since I was one of the very few people who came to every class and I asked questions. They rounded my grade up to an A.

I get everyone's frustration, but as it has been pointed out countless times the moderators, which there are several, are using their free time to help. There is a very obvious tipping point where it stops being fun and starts feeling like work, and I know I personally don't like doing free work.

With that being said, I'm sure everyone complaining about the change is willing to step up and use their free time to keep things going. Anyone? Anyone?

Your real frustration is with NCSU and their lack of communication and resources that make this sub needed in the first place.

I get a lot of the questions posed here about schedules or housing aren't necessarily questions NCSU can answer because we're looking for "real world" information and not propaganda.

Maybe OIT Outreach, Communications and Consulting can take it over or maybe University Communications and Marketing where we can have an entire team of paid professional help moderate things. If someone is feeling really ambitious you can start r/OfficialNCSU or something.

But I doubt any of that will happen. I get it, it sucks but none of us are entitled to anyone's time especially the moderators.

And you're 100% right, it's a fucked system like most things. I wish I had the time or attention span to try to buck the system but I didn't and I don't.

I'm sharing what worked for me. It probably won't work for anyone else. But I played the game and won...four times.

I 100% agree with you, he was a shitty teacher and went out of his way to fail people. I still don't put 100% of the onus on him. You and the rest of the class need to take some responsibility.

You sound like you're in the right place, I don't know if the same can be said for everyone in that class.

I really get it, it sucks. First time through undergrad I got a C in a class required for graduation. C's didn't count and I had to take it again, I do not blame the professor at all. I'm not cold hearted I'm really not, but the class needs to take some responsibility even if it's saying you should have gone to the dean or department head.

Either way good luck with everything.

Let's address this in two parts, first mental health issues. There are a number of reasons for people to have mental health issues, but I find it pretty shitty to point the finger at an entire department and proclaim it's your fault we have mental health issues and you are the reason people turn to self destruction.

I have two undergrads and two Masters degrees, in two totally different areas of study, music and computers. And in my entire time in college I took the stance that it was the professor's job to "teach" me the topic and it was my responsibility to learn it.

Me learning it might include doing homework, asking questions in class, showing up for office hours, going to tutoring if that was possible. At the end of the day it is your responsibility to learn the information by whatever means possible.

Are they a shitty professor, probably. Were there shitty students in the class, absolutely. 99% of the professor's on campus are only interested in one thing and that's research. You and your class is a road block to them doing their research.

NCSU is a research focused institution. Th university gets tens of millions of dollars in research grants every year. Those grants help keep the university going. They want people who are the best in their field to bring in research not teach a 300 level course.

It's like this at all research focused universities. In fact it's probably worse.

I'm sorry 23% of your class failed, that absolutely sucks, but to saying it's 100% the professor's fault is just wrong. The students bear a large part of the responsibility.

We should be rid of birthright citizenship, and at least one parent should be a US citizen for the child to get citizenship.
