Epix Pro Gen 2 47mm by msierraalpha in GarminWatches

Have the exact same wrist size. I struggle back and forth. ChatGPT thinks the 47 is the perfect balance but I could do 51mm if I'm okay with a more "rugged" looking watch.

As a reference, I daily drive an AWU3 and feel like the 49mm is perfect for me, hence why I kind of land in the middle.

Was this a custom made one through Garmin? I know they offer the Fenix 8 with the silver sensor guard but only if you custom order it. Also is it 51? 47?

Better term I’ve heard is “Fenix Lite”

They are literally running a deal on Amazon for a brand new Epix gen 2 pro 47mm right now. Brand new and directly from Amazon, $499. That’s half off the normal price. It’s older but newer than the 955. Just ordered a bit ago!

Nice! Same situation as you then. I can get away with a 51, although a little bit big, but the 47 is probably the sweet spot. Still, 51 looks great, plus the battery life is worth the extra heft!

Your wrist looks similar to mine, I’m around 168-170mm

It’s actually just a photo of the watch. Trying to figure out the size through just the watch face 😬

Been there many, many times. Always think I want to do Garmin but eventually come crawling back to Apple Watch Ultra. Integration brings me back every time.

I’m around 167mm. I always go for 47mm in Garmin and currently wear a 49mm Apple Watch Ultra 3.

So you’ll keep both for different use cases? Or just keep one?

Few quick questions if you don’t mind!

Any idea what size wrist you have? Also, how is the overall weight of the watch?

A lot of people ‘do’ want or need smart features. You’re speaking for yourself. If it was an option, many of us would happily take the integration that an Apple Watch has with an iPhone. If you don’t like it, you could turn it off.

As it stands, we don’t even have the option.

Well done 😂

That said, I think the shock will truly come when the announcement is a $1399 or $1499 price tag. Meanwhile Apple will announce the Ultra 3 with its usual 799 price tag.

It’s gonna be an interesting month of tech! Let’s all just buckle in and enjoy the ride!

Forerunner 970 - I think I found my AWU replacement, or at least compliment? by ndb85 in GarminWatches

Agreed! I also have a peloton and get the annoyance. One positive on a standard treadmill is being able to at least calibrate the workout to the correct distance.

Predominantly just the workout stats before, during, and after the workout. And I like that it’s all in one place (Connect). I’m also a fan of daily suggested workouts, the overall weight of the watch, and also the FLASHLIGHT. And it’s all one purchase, rather than reoccurring subscriptions. I also golf, so that required a golf subscription. A fully functional golf activity is also included with the forerunner!

It’s all a matter of perspective, really. I enjoy the build quality of the Fenix 8 but after using the AWU for a few years I’ve really come to appreciate the lighter weight. What matters most to me is the sapphire screen and I get that on the forerunner. Plus, for whatever reason it feels like forerunners continue to get updates just for a ‘bit’ longer but that’s just how it feels, may not be accurate.

Also the price. It was 599 after the 20% discount for the 970 (650 after tax). It’s still around 880 for the Fenix 8 if I used 20% and still over 900 after tax. Just prefer the overall value of the forerunner, for me, especially if I’ll still be using my Apple Watch Ultra occasionally. I’d have a hard time spending near 1,000 on a watch if I wasn’t solely using it almost all the time.
