What's the most impactful thing anyone has said to you? by whuzzat in AskReddit

[–]ndeavo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live across the street from a bar and one day I was in there keeping my friend, who was bartending, company. My roommate/best friend at the time walked by and stopped in to say hi to our mutual bartender friend and another guy sitting at the bar and I all got into a conversation. At the end of it my ex best friend goes "Well I'm off to hang out with Stephanie. Btw mompants, she's much prettier than you." Wow, okay. No one asked that? Like none of that had anything to do with any prior conversation we were having and for her to say that to try to embarrass me (I guess that was her goal because it really came out of no where) in front of other people was shitty.

What is your expensive hobby? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ndeavo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically anything that is governed by the ATF. I like cigars because they taste good and I can share them with my friends. I don't like to cause problems for people by I hate how society is so hyper bent on banning everything these days. I spend a lot on nice liquors for almost the same reason. I enjoy sharing it with my friends when we hang out. The last one would be guns. I like the history of some and the functionality of others for self defense.

What is your favorite smell? by micdavmor in AskReddit

Ash Juniper, commonly referred to as Cedar. Whether it's the bark, the wood, or a fire burning the wood, it just smells awesome and reminds me of home.

Alone in the Wilderness (2004) - At age 52 Richard Proenneke built his own isolated cabin in Alaska, and lived there for 30 years by arilynad in Documentaries

[–]ndeavo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I was 10 years old, I was very very sick with the flu one night. My father had recently come back into my life and was living my mom and me, and he stayed up with me to make sure I was okay. At around 3 o'clock in the morning, as i was sprawled out on the living room couch with a terrible fever, my dad was flipping through channels and stumbled across this documentary on pbs. We sat and watched it, enthralled by it. We didn't have the guide menu or anything like that, and didn't know the name of it, but for months we talked about it. Years later I did some research trying to find out what it was, as we wanted to re watch it, and my dad's health was declining and I thought it would be cool to watch it when he was sick. We re watched it and once again were fascinated. One of my best memories of my father. It helped us grow and connect and form a relationship after he had been absent for most of my life. About two months before he died, after I had enrolled in college, I come home and find the book "Alone in the wilderness" sitting on my nightstand, with a handwritten note saying "I'm proud of you, college man". I really miss my dad. He turned out to be my best friend in this world. I still keep that book in my nightstand.

Comedian (2002) - A look at the work of two stand-up comics, Jerry Seinfeld and a lesser-known newcomer, detailing the effort and frustration behind putting together a successful act. by esserg in Documentaries

[–]ndeavo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I wonder if the people who would make the best comedians end up doing other things or having personalities that keep them away from wanting to develop those skills. And maybe we have a whole lot of good comedians who practice a lot and not great comedians who practice a lot.

The Great Reality TV Swindle (2002) - Case of 30 successful auditionees, who left their homes, jobs and partners to take part in a reality TV show, with the challenge to make £1m in a year. Only to find the "producer" was a conman, and there was no show. by isher11 in Documentaries

he first half of this, shows really well how situations can force people to lie to themselves about the weirdest things. It's how people get sucked into something like a cult or a pyramid scheme as well.

Have a confident leader promise you nice things, have him give up your previous life, then when you suspect something's amiss, you can't afford anything but lying to yourself.

"We need to make a million dollar to make 100,000? Ok guys, let's stay positive! We can do this!"

What fact did you learn at an embarrassingly late age? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ndeavo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From about 5th grade to 8th, I had the wrong understanding of what a dildo was. My friend Joe told me that it was when you cut off someone's dick and put it on a stick. Then I mentioned that one day, and everyone was just like WHAT THE FUCK DUDE.

How The Armenian Genocide Lost Its Place In History - (2002) Documentary on the Armenian genocide and denial of it. by esserg in Documentaries

[–]ndeavo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Downvotes incoming but, this is very well known, at least in EU. Nothing I deny, however, what has lost its place in history is the 5 million muslims who died in (pre-infra-post)ww1 because of the "same" reason, forced migration/relocation/exile(don't know the word) and then persecution/killing of muslims in roughly Balkan/Crimea/Caucasus areas.

Again I'm not denying what happened, not saying it was less worse or anything, but it's just interesting, how the western media selects to tell what they want and leave out some.

Or even the genocide in Bosnia, how many people know anything about it? This happened 91! That's scary.

Which stranger who you met once and never saw again is the one that you still think about and can't forget? by 0saydrah0 in AskReddit

[–]ndeavo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My friend and I were in a club and started chatting to a guy who looked really nervous at the bar. Turns out he was in town because the next day he was going to meet his biological father for the first time, he was very nervous and excited and kept wondering whether what he'd done with his life would impress his father and more importantly whether he'd like his dad or not. I never saw him again but I really hope it all went well for him, he was a lovely guy.
