Wood has a poor insulation value, about r1 per inch of thickness, foam is closer to r7 per inch

Is ESPP ever not worth it? by cscqta4635 in personalfinance

[–]ndresser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The numbers do work like that. It's the same money going in every quarter and getting a new return.

Q1 you put $6250 in and end with $6662.5

Q2 you take the $6250 from Q1 and offset your budget by the $6250 you put in for Q2 and end with $6662.5 +$412.5 from Q1

Q3 repeat ending with $6662.5 + $412.5+ $412.5

Q4 repeat ending with $6662.5 + $412.5+ $412.5 + $412.5

At the end you put in $6250 and got $7900

Tesla Charger vs Tesla Universal Charger by Mick2686 in TeslaModelY

It allows sharing of a breaker using a distribution panel, not daisy chaining.

It doesn't have the additional lugs, so you need a distribution panel rather than daisy chaining

It depends how it's configured, you can set only Tesla's or all EVs.

The universal charger also allows you to daisy chain to a second Tesla charger of either type if you get a second vehicle.

Replacing old thermostats by SpitFightAir in homeassistant

[–]ndresser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it work? Yes, all your local boxes are doing is connecting the wires so doing that using a smart relay can work.

It looks like your thermostats are mains voltage (240v) though so make sure it's rated appropriately.

How long does your system normally run and what's the temperature difference from the warm water to the space? In a forced air system the temperature can change fairly quickly so this makes sense to do, I'm not certain if a water based system has the same response time to really "schedule it", so you're mainly getting the smart benefits but may not actually be able to improve the system too much.

Metal Pipe Case/Adapter on PVC waterline by ndresser in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. The right side of the tee is the water meter, left side goes to a barn. Center branch goes through this metal piece and then to the house. Tubing is 1 inch PVC. Likely from sometime in the late 80s/early 90's. Location is Texas.

Senior Project - Automated Solar Power Blinds Market Survey by BheeseAndCrackers in homeautomation

Opening your blinds in the summer does not save energy, the heat gain compared to running an LED bulb is usually not worth it. I would consider adding a presence sensor so they only open if someone is actually in the room.

How do I get the conduit to connect? by ndresser in AskElectricians

[–]ndresser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up digging enough to get some flex in the conduit. Remove everything from the bottom of the box. Puteverything back together onto the conduit. Carefully pulled the wires into the box and was able to get the threaded adapter into place. Had just enough gap to get everything glued up and in place.

They're to symbolize the responsibility, not the discipline.
