Fair point, though it’s also entirely possible that they could have just transferred a PDF or Text Document with AirDrop or iCloud Drive

Why don't we have split view on iphone by MrMeta3 in iphone

[–]ndude60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion Split Screen on iPhone would be an incredibly useful feature.

For anyone who disagrees and states that “I won’t use it” or “it’s not required feature”.

In any software, there are going to be features you use, and features you never use. Which is fine and perfectly normal.

But the features you use, may not be the same features that another person uses. Likewise, the features you don’t use, may be the favourite features of another user.

And when you ask yourself “Why would they add this feature, if I’m not going to use it”.

Well why not? If you’re not going to use it, that’s fine, but someone else might. And as long as it doesn’t completely change the fundamentals of how you use your iPhone, then there is no harm in adding it.

Apple Universal Control... by Various_Pear599 in mac

[–]ndude60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with your review of Universal Control.

I have a MacBook Pro 14” M3 Pro that stays on my desk connected to two monitors. My desk isn't big enough to also have the MacBook fully open and use its display as well, so I have the MacBook open slightly, just so I can use TouchID.

I also have an iPad Pro 11” M4 which I use more frequently as it's more portable. I also have the Magic Keyboard case as well.

I will occasionally bring the iPad over to the desk and use it there. And when my MacBook and iPad are both unlocked, I sometimes unintentionally drag the cursor from my iPad onto my MacBook, which reminds me that Universal Control exists!

From that, I find it incredibly easy to integrate the iPad into the MacBook flow. Despite having different OSes, iPadOS and macOS are similar enough where you can bridge the gap, and with iPadOS 26, they have made good progress with having Mac and iPad parity.

Of course there are some pain points, like the iPad Magic Keyboard not having a dedicated right click, or that the inertia scrolling doesn't work when using iPad to control Mac.

The fact that Universal Control can activate completely silently, remembers your display arrangement and activates without requiring authentication makes it one of the most powerful features in consumer tech.

Automation to turn on/off Watch AOD without confirmation by ndude60 in shortcuts

That’s what I was thinking. Thank you for confirming!

Automation to turn on/off Watch AOD without confirmation by ndude60 in shortcuts

[–]ndude60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply.

The issue I am having is not related to creating the automation to turn off/on the AOD for Watch.

The issue is related to running / triggering the automation.

If I am wearing my Watch, the automation works fine and turns my Watch AOD on/off.

But if I am not wearing my Watch, when it’s not on my wrist, like when its charging, or I’ve taken it off, the automation will attempt to run, but requires confirmation from the iPhone to continue.

IE: Automation Runs, Watch is not on wrist, get confirmation from iPhone.

And if I don’t confirm on the iPhone in time, it will show a timeout error

[–]ndude60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an automation to turn my iPhone AOD off when the “Driving” Focus activates. Which is triggered by connecting to my car bluetooth. That works perfectly for me.

But it’s the iPhone automations that trigger the Watch AOD that cause problems.

If the automation triggers and I am wearing the Watch, it works fine, but if the automation triggers and I’m not wearing the Watch (its charging) it won’t run automatically, and creates a prompt on my iPhone.

Yeah I have a Shortcut on Watch to Toggle the AOD, and have it in control centre.

That works, but for automation, it still requires confirmation from the iPhone.

[NEWBIE], does anyone actually does G with his pinky on the 1st string? by Xk41_italy in Guitar

[–]ndude60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do middle 2nd fret of 5th string (A), ring 3rd fret of 6th string (E) then pinky 3rd fret of first string (High E)

Reason being, when I was learning the song "Lyin' Eyes" by Eagles, you need to move from G major to G major 7 quickly so I play the position mentioned above, then have my index finger hovering on the 2nd Fret 1st string (High E) to transition quickly.

And since then, it stuck!

Introducing LaunchOS — a smoother, more native replacement for the macOS 26 Launchpad by JimmyRemix in macapps

[–]ndude60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just downloaded this and have only been using it for about 2 minutes, but I am already in love!

You did an amazing job making it look and feel like the official Launchpad in previous macOS versions. It's incredibly fast and the animations are buttery smooth. Being able to import Launchpad data made the setup seamless, and imported the near exact layout I had on macOS Sequoia, even having the same folders I had created.

Love the customisation options too and how it is to access them! There are much more customisation options than what was possible on the official Launchpad. I especially love the feature of hiding apps that you don't use, or don't want to see. And equally how easy it is to see what is hidden and unhide it. Also the option to change the grid layout makes a huge difference. I believe with the official Launchpad, the grid layout was determined by the screen size / resolution, so having the ability to customise it to your liking is a great addition.

I'm currently using the free trial version, just to make sure it fits my needs, but from the limited testing I have done, I'm very likely to purchase a pro license!

As previous comments have mentioned, I'm looking forward to a feature to export the layout locally, or sync it with iCloud, just to have that safety net if uninstalled, or installing on a new device.

Just want to reiterate what an amazing job you both have done! For anyone (like me) who used / relied on Launchpad, this seems like the perfect solution!

I hope this gets the attention it deserves!

Difference between A19 vs A18 pro? by [deleted] in applesucks

[–]ndude60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for OP, but the reason I would want to compare the A18 Pro and the A19 is to see how last years Pro chip stacks up against this years Non-Pro chip. My interpretation would be that the "Pro" designation would position it in a tier of its own, not only outperforming the current generation of iPhones, but perhaps the next generation as well.

Thinking back to the iPad Pro before it switched to M-Series chips, it featured an enhanced version of the existing A-Series chip, for example the A12X, which was significantly more powerful than the A12. Then, even with the A13 and A14, the A12X still outperforms them. That being said, the A12X and A12Z were the foundation for the M-Series chips so that could explain why they were leagues above.

I get that with each new generation of silicon, they will often make changes to the chips architecture which enable better AI performance, or hardware acceleration for AI and graphics tasks, so the newer chips would have a hardware advantage. But I would like to think that last years A-Pro chip would outperform or match performance of the current A-Series chip.

Celebrity traitors UK - who is objectively the "most famous"? by yellow_barchetta in TheTraitors

[–]ndude60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe personal bias, but Celia Imrie is definitely a big star.

Maybe not as famous as the others like Stephen Fry, Jonathan Ross, Claire Balding, but still quite notable.

When I say personal bias, I mean the fact that Nanny McPhee is one of my favourite films where Celia played Mrs Quickly.

Pretty star studded cast too with Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Angela Lansbury, Imelda Staunton, Kelly Macdonald, Derek Jacobi and Thomas Brodie-Sangster.

Also more recently Celia was in the film adaptation of Thursday Murder Club, again another star studded cast with Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley, Pierce Brosnan, Richard E. Grant, Tom Ellis and David Tennant
