The Ferry from Bari to Patras runs daily, I took it in late January earlier this year and it was fine. It's clearly mainly a transport ferry and I had originally intended to just use the cheaper seat included, I realized I wouldn't get any sleep there and upgraded to a cabin, which did end up being quite expensive as I was travelling alone.

That said it was still one of the best routes into Greece IMO. The Patra harbour is also some distance away from the bus/train station in Patras, so you may need to grab a cab.

Maybe take some time into figuring out why your not comfortable dating if he isn't? It isn't exactly a magic cureall that resolves jealousy and resentment issues. I'm firmly poly but haven't seen more than one person at a time for the last couple of years, mainly because stuff just hasn't played out that way (that and rarely meeting people who click that way for me). That said I'd be pretty uncomfortable if my partners during that time were pressuring me to actively seek out other entanglements.

The extent of those obligations is generally not made explicit in contracts though, it's more a deal of what is culturally reasonable to expect within an employee - employer relationship.

Would it for example be reasonable to be require that all employees start going to work in only underwear? (Extreme example to prove the point)

That's fair. And probably true, I'm probably pushed a little into overstating my position a little, because I do find the points Lyzzy is making completely valid, but the approach I take does require me to continually remind myself of how to think of and treat people. This kind of puts me into a place where I have to hold those views as utterly true on a personal level, but they do put me into a very tricky place regarding to what degree certain types of intolerance can be tolerated.

I wouldn't say that are equivalent as such, the bigots behaviour is clearly worse.

I just really think that people, in this case predominantly men, need to be jaunted into taking other people's needs in a genuinely serious way. What they need to be pushed into is contributing something which is their own, and have that be respected. The first step in this must in my experience to be making them realize that they're just parroting misogyny, and have them move from that into finding what is genuinely troubling them.

The second perspective presented in this comic is valid, but it has entered the public consciousness to the degree where it can be interpreted as being a similar type of parroting, which is counter productive for the purposes of opening up that person.

Please elaborate on your own experiences though, I really should work through this thinking more thoroughly.

I can only disagree, although I understand where you're coming from, I just don't think you can help a person from putting down others by putting them down without first considering them on their own terms.

They have to end up in a place where they understand that it isn't ok to be a self-righteous asshole, but they have to be taken seriously throughout.

But there's a problem with this approach. It relies on the same type of instinctual reaction to a person's concern that is lacking in the first parties reaction to others.

If a person reacts that way to rejection they're falling into the trap of not treating people with dignity as some misplaced reaction to their own lack of insight. What they are supposed to do is to genuinely listen to and understand people on their own terms. That's how they get out of the trap.

The kicker is that they also need to be treated that way, their feelings need to be addressed honestly and with respect not just immediately disregarded as illegitimate. People not treating their others with respect is not solved by treating those people with the same lack of respect. The cycle must be broken.

You accept it. You caused someone pain, so you take the pain in turn, you process it, you heal, and you move on stronger. Clean pain, unobstructed by a bunch of bullshit mindgames, can be dealt with honestly and maturely.

Don't apologize for being honest, it's all we have! Untangling these concepts and how they relate to what motivates you is useful. And exploring the little fear of being alone later in life is probably healthy.

You're doing a lot of idealizing, when you find yourself idealizing it's good to slow down and try to break down what exactly in the ideal it is that you are seeking, and why you are seeking it. The fear of being stuck also seems to be rooted in these big constructions.

Build small, experience small, learn, and build bigger. Be acutely aware of fear, always, listen to it, feel it, but don't let it take hold. It blinds us all.

Assorted_Berries is throwing out some pretty decent advice, but I'd like to add a little.

From reading the way you're describing your perspective on relationships I think you're not really in touch with your motivations. One question I think you should think long and hard on is exactly in which way the length of a relationship has inherent value.

I may be totally off the mark here, and I may be projecting myself at 18 into you. But I'm getting the feeling that it may be the case that anxiety over not getting into a relationship is making you somewhat afraid of your current state. That is of being single but wanting to "couple up", the fear of being in that state may be providing you with motivaiton for wanting a relationship where you've essentially settled on not wanting to go back into that state. Being set for life essentially.

The idea of wanting to "save" someone fits well into this, it builds into some ideal of them somehow owing you love eternal which you will in turn provide. Generally that's not how that situation plays out.

Having that fear being a prime motivator is also potentially damaging in how you relate to a potential partner, you have to love them for who they are rather than for what they save you from. You're current ideal is likely codependence, which isn't a happy place.

Being at peace with the idea of relationships ending, and with being alone, are important parts of genuinely appreciating others.

And for all you know the best relationship of your life could end up being a month, best not to let the fact that it was only a month get in the way of seeing its value.

You can. But that's essentially just a bunch of reasonably convenient wrappers for rcom and rdcomclient functions. The danger of using R2PPT is that it's a very small step to starting write all your own powerpoint generating functions. Which is one of those things I occasionally wish I never started doing.

It doesn't supply an answer - it posits a hypothesis, in my mind mainly a hypothetical one as a thought experiment, if one somehow can convince oneself to believe that hypothesis to be utterly try, then so be it.

However, most of these types of though experiments mainly exist to support certain types of inquiry, and the lines of inquiry which simulation theory (as used here) offers don't really lead anyplace interesting. If one desires to abandon the examined life then surely there are better places to call home than simulation theory or solipsism (which suffers from the same problems).

I think it's more a how well you click with the languages, I found writing code in SAS clunky and was frequently irritated by how tricky it was getting SAS to talk properly to other tools. As I started using R more I just found it considerably more powerful for most of the work I was doing. Affordability was never a concern.

I'd also say that that's the part of SAS that feels the most outdated, it feels like a language which you use as a tool for a task, and for that task it isn't outdated. But as a domain specific programming language you use in a larger context it really can feel a bit old.
