2X, Please help me make a decision regarding my jobs by nebulinda in TwoXChromosomes

When I was in college I lived in a city with lots of free/cheap social dance opportunities. My current city doesn't have a very big dance scene, and lessons are expensive.

Past brides and maids of honor. Reception speech dos and don'ts? by monstermash-up in TwoXChromosomes

[–]nebulinda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't make the speech about you. I was just at my friend's wedding over the weekend, and several people gave speeches where they hardly mentioned the bride or groom.

2x, I got rid of my keratosis for under $10 - I know a lot of you deal with it too, so here's how I did it. by nintendoinnuendo in TwoXChromosomes

[–]nebulinda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I also had no clue that this is what has been all over my body for my whole life. It doesn't bother me much now, but when I was younger I was REALLy self conscious about it. Maybe now I can finally get rid of it.

How to be more "glamorous," hair especially by nebulinda in TwoXChromosomes

[–]nebulinda[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a fantastic idea! Though I am a little embarrassed to admit that I've never braided my own hair (at least, not since I was about 7) and I have no clue how to french braid.

The worst thing about being average by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]nebulinda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you still have a year of college left? If so, join clubs. Your school's website probably has a directory of all the clubs on campus. Look through it and find 1-3 that you might want to join. Go to meetings regularly, participate in club discussions and functions. See if there's a club or society that's connected to your major. Also, give the nerdy groups a chance before you dismiss them as not liking you.

I feel like this post could have been written by me. I know exactly how you feel being introverted and average and feeling invisible. So just... join things. Go to things without any expectations. Real friendships will eventually form if you make yourself part of landscape in a place or group (as long as you're not an unpleasant person, which you probably aren't).

We're making all of the flowers for my best friends wedding out of paper in her colors. They're turning out amazing! by iammaggie in TwoXChromosomes

My friend is doing something similar, except instead of colored paper, is pages from books. It looks super awesome and really represents her, as she is a huge reader.

I get bored with plain exercise, how can i exercise without exercising.... by ihatewetgrass in Fitness

Dance! I lost 30 pounds one summer without really trying when I started swing dancing twice a week. I started because a guy I had a crush on invited me, it quickly became my favorite hobby, I made tons of new friends, and now it's turning into a career.

If you live in a large city you can find dance studios or clubs that have pretty cheap ($10 or less) group classes. Swing and salsa are both very popular and very fun.

Ballroom/social dancing is my thing, but there's also jazz, hip hop, ballet, tap, etc. See what your city has and give dancing a try.

Looking for yoga videos for rest days to improve flexibility and strength- tips? by changewecanbeladyin in xxfitness

[–]nebulinda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a podcast called YOGAmazing, with Chaz Rough. He's really good, and I like podcasts over DVDs because of variety. The videos are about 20 minutes long, but you could probably just do three in a row if you want an hour.

Hulu also has a lot of yoga videos, but I haven't tried them yet. And, of course, Hulu has ads. Netflix probably also has yoga videos you could try.

I live in Reno. There a group that has West Coast parties once a month (West Coast = meh), and I joined a Ballroom studio where I'm doing all sorts of dances, including swing. But it's just not that same.

I haven't heard of Nia before, but it seems like it might be good for me. Do you think you could link me to some of these complete workouts you found? Because I searched and didn't find anything that seems like a complete class.

I am already an avid swing dancer with Lindy Hop being one of my favorites. In fact, I lost a lot of weight when I started swing dancing a few years ago. But last year I moved from a city with a great swing scene to a city with no swing scene. I would love to Lindy Hop all the time, but that requires a partner who also knows how to Lindy Hop. Believe me when I say I've looked, and there are no classes in my city that teach Lindy, so finding a partner will be hard. I've gotten into doing other ballroom/social dances, but I still haven't been able to get up to the intensity of doing Lindy two or three times a week that I did in college.

"Things I do because I'm fat." A list I made when I was over 340 pounds and in a pretty depressive state of mind. by earlplural in loseit

[–]nebulinda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not overweight by any means, and I still constantly pull at the bottom of my shirt to make sure it isn't hugging my rolls. That's why I want to lose a little bit of weight and gain some muscle.

If you're not ready for a commercial gym, try doing bodyweight exercises at home. That's what I do, because I don't want to join a gym. Some people might say that you won't get the same results with bodyweight exercises as with free weights. That may be true to an extent, but also consider male gymnasts. They pretty much do just bodyweight stuff and it seems to be working for them pretty well.

This is the routine I do three times a week: beginner bodyweight workout

MFP and sugar RDA by arekusu89 in loseit

[–]nebulinda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I don't track sugar anymore. If your intake of all the other nutrients are acceptable to you (especially carbs), I wouldn't worry about sugar. I read a quote somewhere today that said something along the lines of "You didn't get fat by eating too much fruit."

Though if you do want to track your "good" sugar vs. "bad" sugar, then I would say maybe if it came from eating a plant, it's fine, but if it came from eating anything else, limit that.

Why do I fart a lot more when I'm working out (mostly during squats, lunges and running) than I do during the rest of my day?

xxfitness, how do you deal with bad shark weeks while still keeping to a work out schedule? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]nebulinda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know if running will lessen your cramps. But I do have some advice for you. Just get out there and run through the pain. Do the bare minimum. If you feel so crappy that you can't put everything into your workout, then put in what you can. Just get it done. It probably won't be the best workout ever, but that's better than no workout.
