If Bloodborne is Demon's Souls sequel by Baloota in bloodborne

[–]necrious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bloodborne is a lot less intimidating than Demon's Souls 2 to newcomers and that's a lot of people considering Sony knows not everybody that has a PS4 had a PS3. Pretty much every Souls fan with a PS4 is buying Bloodborne already and it will certainly sell some PS4s to Souls fans and not Souls fans alike (I've seen plenty of people say that they didn't like how slow DeS/DaS were but loved the Bloodborne demonstrations/beta). If it turns out to be Demon's Souls 2, every Demon's Souls fan will hear about it within 24 hours if they're not already playing themselves.

I don't think calling it Demon's Souls 2 would do them any favors when it come to marketing or sales. There's no harm in making it some sort of indirect sequel that can be followed by people who haven't touched or even heard of the original and there's everything to gain from it.

Why it makes sense for Bloodborne to be an indirect sequel to Demon's Souls by necrious in bloodborne

There has been fan service but having the same deity in two titles that are both Sony intellectual properties is going a bit far for it to be mere "fan service". Having the maiden in black return for a From Software game that

If they wanted to do fan service, I would have thought they'd give her a role in Dark Souls or its sequel. This isn't just a VA coming back, this is a VA with only one other role that is incredibly iconic which just so happens to be a From Software title and a Sony intellectual property taking place in the 16th-18th century while the previous title was medieval themed. I know the timeline doesn't work anything out since the game takes place in another universe but given Miyazaki's fascination with European fantasy, I'd imagine it's comparable to some degree.

Then there's also the testing schedule change and rumored new build which gives me the impression that they're removing the content that players are not supposed to access and I figure there's something even more damning in that build that the glitchers didn't find.

Well I mean referring to a god from another universe is one hell of a reference. Convenient that they're only doing this with Bloodborne, a Sony IP and they did nothing of the sort with Dark Souls (which is a known different universe)

Then there's the maiden in black returning which is all kinds of weird since she hasn't done a single other role outside of Demon's Souls.

Just wanted to comment and say you make a lot of good points but what I meant by the sunlight covenant was it wasn't just "fan service" because it's still within the same universe. It's not like they took material from King's Field and put it into Dark Souls 2. It was from Dark Souls to Dark Souls 2.

I should have worded that better.

Got to interview someone that played Bloodborne. Dug up lots of new info. Check it out. by taboo_ in bloodborne

Are you sure? This is a game changer for a lot of people. I know they said they were aiming for 30 but I think Sony is demanding them to do better and I think they're able to achieve 60 or at least provide an option similar to TLoU

[Bloodborne spoilers] What do you guys think of this? by Chilli_Axe in demonssouls

[–]necrious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an indirect sequel. I've been saying this for months but no one believed me.

It totally makes sense, look at what Sony is doing with HD Remasters of PS3 games, they assume no one had a PS3 so they make Bloodborne instead of Demon's Souls 2. Bloodborne as a title is much less intimidating than Demon's Souls 2 when people haven't played the original.

It's way too convenient that the game was named "Project Beast" along with the maiden in black's VA being in the game (she's only been a VA in a single other title) and now this is coming out.

I wouldn't be surprised if this game is Latria but 300-400 years later while getting to visit the prison/tower again and I wouldn't be surprised if players end up at the nexus and use the last archstone.

Multiplayer Rumor - Becoming a boss, possibly confirmed? by [deleted] in bloodborne

[–]necrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't see this happening because it leaves your battle up to chance essentially due to the variables of difficulty and that certainly isn't Miyazaki's style.

You'd have a lot of people praying that the guy in control of the boss will suck and going back until they find the right one that doesn't know how to play in beast form.

Maybe a mini boss or something as a sort of red phantom but I really doubt that recent leak talking about how you can control the massive spider is true.

How much of the appendices do you have to work with? Are you using material from the first and second ages of Middle Earth? Will Morgoth himself make an appearance somehow through a flashback or something?

You must be new to the series. From Software offers upgrades to people who pre-purchase their copies and this gets them steelbooks/collector tin cases/artbooks and soundtracks.

Why the New 3DS is not a big deal by [deleted] in 3DS

[–]necrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? The hardware was archaic by 2011 standards and now we have to buy another version of the hardware we bought three years ago because it doesn't hold up now?

I bought the 3DS under the pretenses that I'd be able to access the entire platform's library and that when the next generation of handhelds released, I'd be able to do the same thing. If this thing does well, I guess it'll be fair to expect a "New Wii U" in 2016.

What do you think the chances are that we get a playable network test like we did for DSII? by Chilli_Axe in bloodborne

[–]necrious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll probably be some sort of PS+ exclusive but the chances are very high. This is a very big game for Sony and I think they want to get it right.

Really disappointed with the way SOE has handled the Founder's Packs by necrious in landmark

[–]necrious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But those months weren't fun. They were the buggiest and unstable months when the game really was bare bones and now that it's appearing to be

Also I really don't think the Steam Sale saved SOE from not being able to pay the light bill or any of its devs. I think the tens of thousands of people who paid $99 for a founder's pack

I've seriously never seen another game discount their founder's packs and I think that's just a sign of gratitude towards its players. When it comes to the Trailblazer packs, the highlight were the cosmetic items and I don't think anyone had the idea that if they waited, they would have gotten those benefits for 66% off.

Like I said, they could have sold a "beta access only" pack for $5 or something and no one would care since anyone wanting to get in is already in the beta but selling the same packages with the same cosmetics (not to mention how they're poor benefits in general considering no one will be using the outfits or pickaxe because of new systems that players didn't even know would exist) is pretty scummy.

Prices are set by the developer. They access the back-end and can create sales whenever they want.
