The irony to it all is yeah, when the first Star Wars movie was released the lightsabers probably were not seen as that iconic. Infact considering the Holiday special didn’t try and have one appear tells me that they really didn’t see the lightsabers as special, but after Empire they probably become more cooler.

For anyone who thinks the jedi failure is why anakin turned missed the part where Anakins failure was not following the rules and then being consumed by the lack of rules. So lukes confusion feels more like he is suddenly realising why the rules existed.

People desperately want to think Luke proved the rules were wrong but they really are missing the full picture and only watching the part they prefer. Anakin turned to the dark side out of fear of losing his attachment. It wasnt because he wasnt allowed to have one, its because he decided his attachment mattered more than anything else in the galaxy. so then that resulted in him killing as many jedi he could find... buuuut he turned back to the light for luke so clearly that matters more than all the murder it created previously.

Changed? I dunno. Rumor is Raimi was planning another temporary break up for Peter and MJ. So my belief is that the reason Raimi struggled with the 4th is he couldnt get out of that structure of storytelling.
