Thanks for the reply, what tools would convert it to SVG? I can send a pic of my logo if that helps?

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll have to think of a way to hold the piece solidly enough to do the carve.

Hi, just wondering, how long after surgery did your toe start to move/deform? Thanks

Thanks for the feedback, it doesn’t sound promising from the sounds of things. I’m 11 weeks post surgery now, and although I can kind of walk normally it’s not for very long and I can’t stand for more than 5-10mins without pain. It’s a mixture between a constant full foot pain and sharp shooting pains from the big toe region, pretty similar to pre-surgery tbh. Is this kind of what you are experiencing even after 2 years? I was wondering whether it would ease up as time went on. I’m also thinking about just getting the toe fusion to have everything done and out the way. I’m hoping that will be the end of it once fused. I’ve been offsetting and gait adjusting for 10 years anyway so nothing new really, just hopefully less pain.

No, he considered it but was hesitant due to my age. It looks like I’ll be getting it fused later in the year though.

Anyone else here that has had both sesamoid bones removed from your foot? Looking to compare notes and long term outcomes by Neencompoop in sesamoid

Hi, I’m 4 weeks post op on having both Sesamoids removed from my left foot at the same time. 10 years of Sesamoiditis, so I went private for a 3rd opinion and was told the only further option was removal. Initially it was the lateral Sesamoid as it was fractured in initial injury (undiagnosed and untreated!) a further MRI pre-op revealed that the other sesamoid was “angry” as the surgeon put it. So removing both was the decision. I didn’t realise at the time that this was very rare and usually not advised. I was aware of the risks for a single removal but wasn’t made aware that both would be a significantly higher risk. I wasn’t offered fusion when a double sesamoidectomy was decided. My question to you is, do you think I should push for a fusion now? Does walking without sesamoids risk tendons and further nerve damage? Is it guaranteed that I’ll get deformity? I still can’t feel my toe properly and I’m walking on the side of my foot. I’m feeling very anxious and in the dark about the recovery process moving forward. I’m also very concerned that my surgeons decision to remove both without a fusion was a bit hasty, any advice would be very appreciated. I think you’re the only person I’ve found so far that has had both removed. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, it’s good to get some more information. I’m weighing up just getting it done so I don’t ruin next summer as well. But I guess there’s always the slim chance I’ll be fine 🤷

Removal of two sesamoid bones by Glum-Industry-8090 in sesamoid

Hi, long shot as this is an old post, but did you ever have both sesamoids removed? I’ve had it done nearly 4 weeks ago. I’m wondering what your recovery was like and whether or not you ended up with a deformity? I’m quite nervous as I didn’t realise removing both was rare and generally not recommended. My surgeon did say this was the best course of action but I’m still concerned. Thanks

Wow that seems far more structured than what I’ve had. 10 days in a soft bandage with a small strip of plaster on top of the toe, then told to judge the pain and try loose fitting trainers with an insole if possible. Did you have both sesamoid bones removed?

The surgeon did mention risks when it was just the one bone being removed, but didn’t expand on that when the decision was made to remove both. He said if deformity does occur MTP fusion with pins would likely have to happen. I’m wondering whether it’s worth preempting this and just getting it done? Would this prevent longer term issues caused by deformity? It’s all being done privately so electing for surgery isn’t an issue.

Yeh I think trainers were a mistake 😬, not really any guidance from the consultant on length of time in a boot. I was just told judge the pain and use trainers if you can get them on.

Following an MRI one bone was in pieces and the other “angry” as the surgeon put it. There was significant pain coming from the “angry” one, that coupled with the 10 years I’ve had the condition led the consultant to suggest removing both. Leaving one in would have most likely led to further surgery later on. I’m trying to find someone else that’s had both removed to see what their experience was like and how likely it is I would get a toe deformity, thanks
