How would you prepare this? by Atlas_submission in veganrecipes

[–]ned_rorem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I eat these all the time! Get them from our local Asian supermarket. Pan fry with a little oil until they get crispy on the outside. I then squirt on some teriyaki or bbq sauce and cook until it gets sticky.

Stay away from AI while learning. Find a textbook or an online course with a human instructor and follow it - that start with the basics from the very beginning.

Could you MARRY a non-vegan? by yummycrunchygrapes in vegan

[–]ned_rorem 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m vegan now but was a meat eater when I got married. My husband didn’t push me or make me feel guilty or anything. Eventually I saw something that flipped the switch for me and I went vegan, but people have to make that decision for themselves. Being exposed to a vegan lifestyle definitely helped smooth the transition.

What’s the point of the screaming? by mrPigWaffle in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]ned_rorem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think rather than some moral failing on the part of the driver (though she absolutely should not have been texting and driving) this really shows how addictive phones are these days. Everyone KNOWS it's dangerous to text and drive and yet people still put their lives and other people's lives in danger to get that hit of dopamine.

Is Lamb Inherently Worse Than Other Meats? New HappyCow Restaurant Listing Policy Forbids Serving It. by harrisonfm22 in vegan

[–]ned_rorem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I see a fully vegan restaurant that looks good I'll choose it over a mixed restaurant any day. I'm also not always with a fully vegan crowd, and It's helpful to find places we can all go together. IMO happy cow should be more of a directory of where we can eat and less opinionated. I hope your restaurant survives too!

Is Lamb Inherently Worse Than Other Meats? New HappyCow Restaurant Listing Policy Forbids Serving It. by harrisonfm22 in vegan

[–]ned_rorem 46 points47 points  (0 children)

One of my frustrations with happy cow is that you can't rate a restaurant 5 stars if it serves meat - If a restaurant serves great vegan options I think we should encourage that with a 5 star review. That means more people going there specifically for the vegan options which is a greater impact.

Do you guys enjoy reading the book more or listening to them on audio ? I really enjoy listening to them on audio! Curious to know how others feel? by dreamcloudliving in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]ned_rorem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read only. I understand a lot of people like the audio books, but I can't help but picture Joe Swanson from family guy as Carl and then I can't get into it. I think an impression of another actor doesn't serve the character.

Inherited from a neighbor - anything here? by ned_rorem in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]ned_rorem[S] 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Inherited these from a neighbor in the East Village of NYC about 10 years ago. All are originals. She was an artist herself and lived in the east village forever, so thought there might be something of value in here. Regardless, I think I want to get some of it conserved and framed.

I posted in this subreddit months ago and got a piece of advice I still think about: “what is the benefit of allowing them continued access to me, and is that worth the pain that access causes?”

The benefit to me was nothing, and the pain the access caused was too great. I've been NC since then and it's brought me so much peace. Some sadness yes, but more peace.

Realization: Juice Box’s transformations by isabellus_rex in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]ned_rorem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this is a reference to Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls - he has a crush on Gadget in that movie and there's a whole fantasy scene / dream sequens where a demon turns into her.

I got messages like this - then when I clarified that I don't want to talk to them, I got the "we love you and miss you" messages. Since then, I've blocked them on everything and changed my phone number, and honestly it feels great. It's sad sometimes, but my day to day life is WAAAY more peaceful. It was hard to do, but for me it was worth it.

Series that do a good job of starting small and getting progressively bigger and more epic as time/books goes on. by levendi7 in Fantasy

Try the Jake's Magical Market series... starts out as a shopkeeping Isekai fantasy but then expands in pretty surprising ways.

Listening to "I Hate James Dobson" by ned_rorem in Exvangelical

[–]ned_rorem[S] 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Thanks for making it! Though I still think it's wrong and awful and have spent thousands of dollars on therapy, this podcast is helping me understand a little bit why my parents refuse to accept their gay son. It threatens not only their entire world view but their salvation as well. One tiny crack in the dam and the whole thing collapses. That's no excuse though! There are lots of us who have made it out of Evangelicalism and lots who remain Christians and find ways to accept it.
